Actually I am not sure what the names of the surgery are but they will have to advance my lower jaw forward and then surgery on my upper jaw to fix my gummy smile. If anyone knows the names of those surgeries that would be awesome to find out. I am such a dummy for not remembering when I was at my consult with the oral surgeon.

A post I made in the Oral Surgery section but wanted to also keep in my story as well!

I saw an ENT today and guess what! He said my CT scan was not even close to normal. He said that my septum is broken (not sure if that is tech called a deviated septum or not) and my turbinates are large for my nose size. He will be doing a surgery to reduce the size of my turbinates and repairing my septum.

He said I had three options:
Option one: do it before my jaw surgery and risk the chance of the tube during my jaw surgery hurting my septum again (which he said this never happens).
Option two: do it during my surgery but the surgeon might not be able to fix my turbinates and only do the septum part.
Option three: wait 1-2 months after my jaw surgery and do the nose.

I decided on option 1 because my jaw surgery isn't for another 8 months most likely and who knows what will be going on by then. Being in the military things can change pretty quickly so when you get a chance to actually schedule something you have to take it. The surgeon that will be fixing my nose is going to be separating from the military like a week after my surgery so I will be one of his last military patients. I chose to stay with him because no one in the past 4 yrs has been able to finally say what's wrong with my nose until him.

So Arvensis if you have any words of wisdom on this (if you had any or all of these things done) I would love some insight!

Adjustment #4:

It has been about a week since my adjustment but things have been busy. I haven't gotten around to taking pics yet but I will try soon. At this adj. the assistant took out all my ligs and my wires and let me brush and floss which felt soooo good. Then the ortho came in and decided to put a 14 whole power chain on my top along with a stronger wire. He did something interesting on my top arch, he clipped my wire behind my first molar so that they would move up. It was very painful for the first couple days but it's not feeling so bad anymore.
Good news, he said the only thing we are waiting on for my surgery is to put a stronger arch wire on bottom. Since this was my first adj. for my bottom braces he says next adj. we will put a new wire in. I will be looking at surgery in the Nov-Dec time frame. It's kind of scary to think it is happening that fast. I was told 1 yr of braces on before surgery but it's looking more like 8 months.
I have my nose surgery happening next week and I can't wait for the results to already be here. I can't wait to finally be able to comfortably breathe out of my nose! I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe! From here in Japan Ja Mata-ne metaru kuchisaki furenzu! ( Still not good with Japanese but it means See you later metal mouth friends).

Still no pictures because my camera is acting up but I wanted to let everyone know that I am having surgery on my nose on monday the 25th and I will hope to get on and show some pics afterwards. The doc said I won't have any change to the outward appearance of my nose just a little bit of swelling. The part that worries me is the "straws" he mentioned that will be going in my nose! Anyway, hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Twin,

Just caught up on your story, I've been so lax on the boards lately. Your teeth look great! Love the turqoise ligs! Anyway, good luck with your surgery tomorrow (It might be tomorrow were you are), keep us posted!

Thanks for stopping by Browneyedgirl

I just wanted to let you all know I am out of surgery and have been home about 5 hrs. The surgery went well and I am not in too much pain. I am glad I am already used to not being able to breath out of my nose or this might be hard for me. My throat hurts more then my nose due to the fact that they stuck a breathing tube down there and it getting dried out from breathing through my mouth. I have been using LOTS of chapstick too cause its difficult to get my tongue to wet my lips. The only odd thing that happened with this whole thing is when they moved me from the bed to a chair my eye started bleeding. Meaning my tear ducts had filled with blood which was pretty weird, it keeps happening now and again when I try and do to much but the doc said it's nothing that will hurt me. I can't pick up the boys for two weeks which will be hard but after my nose feels better I will let them crawl on my lap so it wont be too bad. Anyway just giving everyone an update, I will be bored this week so feel free to send emails!

Hi twinjoy,

Glad to hear overall you're doing well. I know how you feel about wanting to pick up the kids but not being allowed to. After I had all 4 wisdom teeth out I really wanted to pick up my nine month old so I tried...and nearly dropped him! I know you're not allowed for your safety(and the kiddies)...it almost seems that that's harder then recovery :? .

I hope you stay well :D .
Keep smilin'! :)

It seems like it has been months since I last updated my story, life has been busy but teeth seem to be standing still. At my last adjustment my ortho said both arches have surgical grade wires and all he is doing is closing one gap on my top arch. He said at my Dec adjustment he will be having my "check up" apt, where he takes xrays and molds to see if I am ready for surgery. I can only cross my fingers and hope everything will be ready!

He also bent my upper wire out and said he is trying to widen my upper palate but if the wire doesn't do the trick then he will do this in surgery. I was at a military event and one of the general surgery assistants was there and we started talking about what will happen during my surgery. She said the name of the surgery I described was a Leforte, but I didn't think to ask what number should go behind that. I had an adjustment scheduled for Nov 25th but then work told me I would be going TDY for 2 weeks and won't be back until the 26th so I had to call and change it.....now it won't be until Dec 10th! :(

That is about it for now, I am not posting new pics just yet because they don't look any different from the last pics I posted (at least I don't see any changes). But maybe before I leave I will take some pics. I am planning on taking several profile shots soon for my before surgery pics and I will post those too.

Well the day has finally arrived! I now have a surgery date! April 15th 2009 at 0730! I tried to take some pics since I haven't posted any in awhile but am having camera issues. I will def be posting some before my surgery. Anyway, this is going to be done at a military hospital as I am active duty Air Force and I am only allowed 2 weeks maybe 3 if I really need it, I am kinda worried if I will be ready for 12 hr shifts at only 3 weeks post op. Anyone post surgery have thoughts on being able to wake up at 5 am and work 6 am to 6 pm and be home by 6:30 only 2 or 3 weeks post op from double jaw surgery?

Hi Twinjoy,
No need to stress about, your healing period. I know some one close to me who go jaw surgery for his underbite and was back in action within a week.
Maintain a positive attitude. Clearly express your concern to the doc.
Good luck

My surgery is on Apr 27th. A little over my orthodontists originally scheduled 1 yr but I am ok with that. The thing I am not ok with however is that because my surgeon moved the date about 15 days I will now be going on my trip to the US with the splint still in place and still on a NO CHEW DIET. I live in Japan right now on a military base and I miss American restaurants like you cannot believe (unless you have been in a similar situation lol). Oh well, I guess I will be sure to not gain any weight on my trip! Hopefully I will be allowed to lift my kids by that time (4 weeks post op) because a 12 hr flight with only my husband able to pick them up may be gruesome!

Scary Profile shot!!
