Ms Tee, looking great!

Congrats on the 'U' shaped arch!

Is it just the lighting, or do I see less of a gap between your top front tooth and your left incisor?

At first I thought the computer screen was playing tricks on me, in one picture I see the blue you talk about, in the other it looks completely white!

I keep shying away from lighter colors like that, I'm absolutely terrified they'll fade too much and I'll end up with a washed out color. Maybe I'll venture out of my shell soon, haha.

Hey jennandtonic,

Yeah, the spaces in the top row were the first to close up!

My first ligs were a light color...but they held out just about the entire time before my next adjustment. I don't know why this color reacted differently, but oh well. You should venture out...that's the fun part of being in braces! :D

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been around to post updates or comment in any of your threads lately! I've been so busy, I totally forgot about tracking my progress with braces online!

Well, it's been 9 months since I've been braced...and they are scheduled to come off on AUGUST 7...I am very excited! My next appointment is on June 15, which was set 6 weeks after my last visit (all of the others had been set at 8 weeks apart). After that, I go on the 8/7 to have them removed, and return on 8/9 for my retainer! It's late and I'm headed for bed, but I will definitely post some pics of my progress by the week's end. I missed you guys...would love to hear from ya! :)

Here I am!

Hi guys,

I'm back to post my picture updates. Now, I realize that I haven't been around to update you on my orthodontic visits, so bear with me as I comment on certain changes that have been made as they are visible in each photo:

My teeth in all their glory as of today. Since my last update, powerchains have been removed from the bottom row. They were placed on the upper row, but were also removed during my last visit! The asst. said when I come back next month, they will assess to see if any of my teeth moved due to less pressure sans the powerchains. I've only noticed small movement on both sides of my two front top teeth:
Image

I am still wearing elastics. However, as of my last visit, the placement of them has changed. Instead of bicuspid (bottom) to molar, they are bicuspid to bicuspid. This is to pull the bite in, if you will, so there is shorter distance between the top and bottom rows. The previous placement was to pull the bottom row behind the top row, correcting my underbite.
Image

No more spaces...including the nasty one that was at the bottom left!
Image

The other side...see, my bite has formed nicely!
Image

Finally, here is a comparison of the progress I have made over the past 9 months:
Image

Now you see why I am itching to get these babies taken off! I am ready to flaunt my new smile...naked, as Kiwi put it! I have enjoyed the experience and am grateful for what the treatment has done for my teeth, but now I am anxious to move on! :D

Hi all,

As you might recall (or see from my ticker), I am scheduled to have my braces removed tomorrow!

I was excited...until Friday afternoon.

I happened to go to the ortho's office to make a payment. I asked the lady who works with everyone's financing the best one to get my remaining payments in, because I am moving away from the area at the end of the month. She proceeded to tell me. She then looked at my chart, and asked if my treatment was ending on time, or ending early. I stated that it's on time; that the ortho has communicated to me since day one that I only needed to be in braces for one year. She looks at me and says "Well, the thing is that your balance is supposed to be paid in full before the braces can be removed."

So what the heck does that mean? I am going to stay in braces for another year for no apparent reason other than to finish paying my balance?

I asked to speak to the ortho. She initially tried to play "buffer" if you will, and said she didn't know if he was available or not. I turn around, and there he is right there. She asks him if he's available, and he says "Give me 10 minutes." So I sat down and waited. When he finally came over to me, I explained the situation. I told him to his face "I am pretty sure I don't need to be in braces another year." He looked through my chart and said that he would have to get with her to figure something out.

Why didn't he get with her (or she get with him) A YEAR AGO??!? She admitted by fault "I only deal with the financing side of things." So, because the financial person doesn't get with the person actually doing the treatment, the patient gets penalized? She stated that it is in the contract. Well, me being human, clearly overlooked that statement. I suppose at the time I signed the contract, my main concerns were 1) the payment amount 2) the term of the financing and 3) when the payments were due. I thought maybe they were stretching it over 2 years b/c of the amount that I was responsible for, to make it more affordable for me.

So now I'm waiting to hear something from them. The ortho claimed they would get with me by the end of today. I just called; the other lady who works the front desk cut me off, transferred me to the ortho, but his voicemail picked up. I left a message, but I am not so sure that he will return my call. I am not about to go in there in hopes of having these braces removed, for him to tell me that I need to keep them on longer. I will try to find someone else to remove them before I do that.

Am I wrong in my thinking? Is it my fault that the ortho has been saying one year of treatment to me all along, but supposedly told the financing lady two years? All the times I've been in for adjustments, all the times I've been in on separate occasions to make payments, even the few times I asked about my remaining balance, no one ever thought to check behind themselves??

Clearly, I am not happy about this predicament. I just hope that someone will be reasonable about the conclusion that they come to, which should involve proceeding with the treatment as scheduled. If they want me to expedite paying the remaining balance, I would be willing to see what I can do...though I can't make any promises.

Curious to hear your thoughts,

Ms. Tee

They have CareCredit for 1 year no interest, CapitalOne financing or one of those other things. That sucks to be in your situation but I think your Ortho will work things out since it's not your fault they told you one year and spread your payments for 2 years.
Upper and lower 1st premolars extracted
Uppers braced 4/6/07 & Lowers braced 4/20/07
ceramic brackets and rectangular arch wires
Est. term: 30-36 months
De-banded: 3/04/09 w/ LBR and U&L Essix
