Hey Jenny ~

Yep, I just bit right in!! Cautiously of course! I just took small bites and boy, I think that's the longest I've ever spent eating a burger! Maybe long enough to make the Guiness Book of World Records?????

Friday night the kids & I were at P*zza H*t and I grabbed a breadstick and attempted to take a bite. After about three tries I finally gave up, set it down and cut it up!! My daughter asked me why I was making funny faces and I told her I was trying to bite my breadstick and it wasn't cooperating with me!!! (Another note to self, don't eat breadsticks in public by biting into it!) As for the pizza, I've always been a fork & knife girl so it's normal for me to eat it that way!

Sorry to hear that your gums are still bothering you. I agree, maybe you should check with your ortho or dentist.

I've gotten used to the Listerine burn!

Btw, I've FINALLY posted pics! Check them out!

JML - sodium floride doesn't stain but stannous flouride does. There usually is a warning on the package alerting you to the staining.

B: Hehe...I know it's silly  ! My nephew, who has braces, was over this weekend and we had steak. I watched him dig in with envy  . I'm not brave enough to try steak but I am eating more and worrying less. He's been braced for six months so I'm hoping by then, I'll be brave too! Thanks for the advice. I will try the salt/water rinse and if it's not better in a few days, I'll call my dentist.

Braced32: I know what you mean by the time it takes to eat! I just wanted to blend my burger and drink it, it was taking so long!!Glad to hear you made it through your night out at P*zza H*t. We used to have one here, but they closed down  . I love that place! Good to hear you're used to Listerine. I don't think I'll ever really enjoy the burn but it's definately tolerable:)
Keep smilin'! :)

Hi Jen,

I ate steak for the first time when I had braces about six weeks. You definitely have to cut it up small and it can't be well done. I mainly chewed it on my left side with my 2nd molars since I don't have molar tubes on that side.

I hope that the salt water rinse helps. I would totally call the dentist incase it is something.

Have a great day!

Well, today is 3 weeks since my b'day and I'm getting really anxious to get my lowers on(but not the turbos :( ). I feel like my teeth really haven't moved at all. The little gap I though was there doesn't look any different when I compare pics so I'm a little dissappointed but I keep telling myself it's been less then a month so be patient  . I was told that when I come in on April 8th to get my lowers braced that I would be getting turbos and my top wire changed so I'm really hoping they change the wire. I've read so many stories about adjustments that don't go as planned....

B: Yes, I'd love to have steak but I'm the type who can't eat meat unless it's practically burnt so "not well done" is not an option for my  ...oh well, I'll survive :D . My inflamed gum is feeling A LOT better and the swelling has gone down. I pushed through the pain and flossed really well under the gumline and a little bit of food came out. That must be what started it. It's all good!! Thanks :) !!

Well, I'm going away for a week today for my kids March Break from school so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have any complications(ie. brackets falling off)while away....that would suck! lol

Thanks for everyone's support...see ya in a week!! :computer:
Keep smilin'! :)

Oh, I don't enjoy the Listerine burn but I'm not really bothered by it anymore!

I had steak two days ago (braced only 1 week & 1 day). It was SOOOO nice out that I had the hubby grill. I wasn't sure how I was going to eat it but I was definitely going to try. (Remember, I have a bite plate so no molars touch - just my front teeth!) I grew up eating well-done meats but my hubby & his family is medium to medium-rare so I've compromised. I now eat medium-well. Anyways, eating steak the other night was definitely a challenge. I basically swallowed it whole - after some mashing! Too many times I nearly choked so I had to get a tall glass of milk to drink after each bite and help the meat go down! Well worth it, I think!

Glad your gum is feeling better! Have fun on your March Break!

Hi Jenny –

Happy 1 month! Yea!!! :-)o I bet you are an old pro now.

I hope your March Break was enjoyable and there were no brace complications. So far, it has been good for me. However, I tried Satin floss and it just shredded – yikes. Have you noticed any more changes? I know it is crazy to keep checking, but its fun too. Good luck with your progress!!

Hey all!! I had a great break with the hubby and kids. It went by waaay to fast but now life's back to normal and that's kinda nice too.

Braced32: It's funny you talked about compromising and having medium-well. We had steak over the weekend(well, I had chicken) but my sister said I just had to try her's. It was done medium-well and it was delicious!!! I'm definately going to have steak done that way before I get my bottom's and turbos on so I can chew it a little  .

B: My gum is all healed! YAY!! :jump: My top one on the other side started to bother me and I was like "What the heck is going on? My gums are just taking turns getting sore!!" HAHA! But it only lasted a day or two and...*knock on wood*...none of them are bothering me :D . Are you doing anything fun for your kids Spring Break?

Wired: Thanks for the 1 month wishes  . It's hard to believe it's been a month already! I didn't have any complications, thank goodness! Unfortunately, I haven't really noticed any changes(just the gap between my two front teeth seems a bit bigger). Yeah, I hate when floss shreds. I use superfloss by Oral-B and I love it except sometimes it shreds too but usually not too bad.

Ok, well, since it's my One Month Anniversary, I'm going to post some pics. Let me know if you see any changes but I don't really see any so if you don't see any changes, don't be scared to say so. I'm getting used to that famous motto: Slow and steady wins the race!!

Great photos, Jenny!! I look forward to following you on your journey. Don't despair in regards to not seeing movement. I had my lowers braced for 6 weeks and I still don't see any movement either... :( ...so you are not alone.

GREAT pics!

YEP, getting your lowers braced will be great :) but getting those turbos, I can imagine, are not going to be fun! :(

Even with the turbos you should still be able to eat the medium-well steak. You just won't be able to chew it all the way! I don't think I get anything broke down all the way. Everything is pretty much swallowed whole after some mashing in the mouth!

Nice photos!!! It looks like very subtle movements. I suspect in a few months, we’ll be saying, “WOW – look at the progress!â€

Thanks, guys and gals! :D It's hard to see any noticable improvements with the pics but last night my two front teeth felt so different. They felt like the bottom of them, where they still touch, was pushing really hard together...lots of pressure!! Weird! I don't think they're supposed to be rotated that way! lol Oh well, 15 days and counting until my bottoms are braced and my tops get their first adjustment...YAY!!

missfashionista: Hehe...I had to chuckle a little when I read your comment. I know it was meant as encouragement but I was like "oh, 6 weeks? Is that what I have to look forward to...darn!". Although I have heard that with bottoms quite often, ppl don't see any movement for a long time and then, BAM!, they wake up and there's a huge change...hopefully that'll happen to us!! :D

Braced32: Oh, I know. Those dang turbos! My bite has changed so much that when I bite down now, there's even more space between my uppers and lowers(overbite is worse) so I'm praying(probably in vain) that I'll get to my appt. and my ortho will say "oh, well you don't need the turbos...there's enough clearance there. You're tops have spread out enough",.....haha! Wishful thinking, huh? I'm thinking that must be why I'm having my bottoms braced separately...if they spread out enough, I won't need the turbos? Hmmm......

Wired: You said "I suspect in a few months, we’ll be saying, “WOW – look at the progress!â€

Well, to me, that archwire looks a little bit rounder, and it looks like your lateral incisors have moved a little in relation to your front teeth (or perhaps the other way around).

Thanks Buffy:) :D

Although, I have to admit, I was trying to put all my photos into different albums and I messed up the links. When I went to repost them, I had lost the 1 month pic of my upper arch so that pic was just re-taken and re-posted about an hour ago. It's only been a few days so I didn't think it would matter and it's not the original pic that the others commented on but, none the less, I'm impressed there's a noticable difference in just the last few days!! As you can tell by the others comments, there really wasn't anything noticable and now there is!!! YAY! And, yes, my two front teeth are moving out a bit, I think and making the archwire more rounded. Of course, it could be the angle the pics was taken :? .

I wanted to post this pic taken today, mostly for my own benefit(wish I had of taken a pre-brace pic at this angle)

Hi Jenny,

Great pics! You can definitely see some movement! I think it's fascinating watching everyones progress. You're a few weeks ahead of me.... I just can't wait to see some movement :D

I read your story before I went to get my braces on a couple of weeks ago and had the same waiting room situation as you ... lots of teenagers. I had to hold in the giggles
