Pebbles,

My ex-husband and MIL started with me about it. (He probably wonders how I can afford it.) Your teeth are straight why did you get braces? My TMJ problems probably got worst when dealing with my childish ex. I guess people don't realise that a good bite and proper occulsion are important. Oh well....

Tomorrow is going to be interesting. I have an early morning meeting and only one person in my office knows that I got braces. I did go in on Friday for a half day and I wasn't my usual self, I was very quiet and normally I'm animated and very talkative. Only a couple of sales reps were there and I don't think anyone noticed. A few people thought that I wasn't feeling well, which is partially true, because I was famished! One of the managers asked if I wanted to do lunch, but I really didn't want to try and eat out in public. Eating is a total chore and right now I prefer to do it in the privacy of my own home.

I've already attempted to eat out, which wasn't to bad. You definitely need to make the right choices.

My day was great! I did my favorite thing, I went shoping!!!

I hope that you had a great day too!

Hiya, Grl,
Just stopping by to see how your week is going! Hope all is good for you. Hope your mouth is not too sore!

My only news is I clashed my teeth in my sleep last night and another bracket popped off. So today at my appointment, he put back on the two... and gave me a Bite Turbo behind my left front tooth. This keeps my top teeth from lowering over my bottom brackets - and breaking them off...

You would not believe this, but with the molar build up on my back molars and now the Bite Turbo on my front teeth, My teeth do not meet at all. When I close my teeth, nothing touches!! I can't chew up food on any surface on any tooth.

I don't know how long this lasts, but I hope it doesn't take long.

I'm going on vacation on Feb 2nd to Scotland and London.... and I am sad, thinking I won't get to eat anything while I'm there. and it's the eating that makes traveling so wonderful. I love Fish n Chips, Meat pies, puddings, pastas, and Curry .... things I just can't get here in The States.

I know --- I'll just live on pints and pint of ale for 11 days!

Browneyedgirl - My story sounds very similar to yours. I had braces as a kid and I will need them again at age 41. I'll be braced sometime in February. Just like you, my teeth are very straight but my bite is off and I'm a grinder. My top front teeth are pretty short due to all of my grinding. After my bite is corrected and my teeth are placed in the correct position, I'm going to add length to my teeth by bonding. The final result is going to be fantastic. I'm definitely going for ceramics on top. I know that most people get metal on the bottom but I think I can get away with ceramics on the bottom because my top teeth are short enough not to break the bottom brackets. By the way, your orthodontist sounds really good - who is your orthodontist? I also live in Orlando. :-)

Hi Pebbles,

I can't believe it's already been a week. I've already been back to the ortho to have my wires clipped. I was also worried about my upper teeth on the left practically hitting my lower brackets, I figured that I'd get either molar buildups or bite turbos, but that didn't happen. It's going to be a wait and see. My teeth seemed to have moved alot. My bite is totally messed up, my teeth on the right barely touch, and my upper arch is rounding out nicely.

I can't believe that you had to have 2 brackets repaired and you got a bite turbo. Has it affected your speech?

Your trip overseas sounds like fun. You can eat fish and chips if you mash them up and all those other things can probably be eaten if it's cut up small. I let the drinking will be fun...LOL!!! I attempted to each a california roll last weekend and normally I just dip the piece of roll in the soy sauce and eat, this time I had to cut the piece it quarters just to get it down, UNREAL!!!

Just give things time, you never know what will happen over the next couple of weeks, maybe our bite will settle a bite and you'll be able to chew better.

Have a great night!

Hi Jeter,

I won't post his name on the board, but if you PM me, I'll be more than happy share it with you.

How many orthodontists have you been to? What section of town are you in? Looking forward to hearing from you.

BTW, my ortho doesn't offer ceramics on the bottom, only on top.

Hey Ken,

My upper right wire was killing me, totally shredded my cheek apart. I just stopped wearing wax on my molar tubes. Thank god, it was getting old already. My upper arch is really rounding out nicely too. My ortho didn't want to do molar buildups or turbos, he said by using them, may open up my bite and he doesn't want to do that. It will be the last resort, pray that I don't bite off any brackets.

As far as the bite goes, it does change everyday, it's so weird, my midlines are really off my left side doesn't fit at all and the right barely touches. I guess it's a day in the life of an ortho patient.

Catch ya later!

Hi Grl,
Hope you are doing better today. I'm still using wax on 4 teeth at night.

Things are better here, ate some scrambled eggs... they were so good.

I'm being very careful to not bite off my brackets and on Tuesday, I'm going to ask my Ortho if it's ok to just have the molar build ups and not get the Bite Turbo back. At least with the build ups, my far back teeth touch and I can chew back there.

Have a great weekend

Hi Peb,

I'm doing great! NO MORE WAX!!! For now that is...

I ate pizza last night, WOW, what a chore... I had to cut it up into tiny pieces and chew with my second molars, (only one is bracketed (not wired) at the moment and who knows when the other 3 will get done.

I hope for you that you don't have to get the bite turbo back, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Enjoy your day!!!

Yay for no more wax!

I had pizza over the weekend, too, and there's just something that's not natural about cutting it up!

I am finding myself eating everything with a fork just so I can cut it up.

This whole site is so great, its awesome reading others that feel just like I do. I dont know about all these things like build ups and the bite turbo. On the other hand I have a feeling I will find out, my upper front teeth are now hitting my lower brackets more and more. I just try to be careful.

I use wax on 3 back teeth, the wires are a bit long so they slice and dice my cheeks.

It looks like there are several of us that are brand new to braces so we can all do this together. :)

The only way to eat pizza is to pick it up and eat it with your hands, oh well. When there's a will there's a way!!!

Hi Smile,

Everyone here is awesome!!!

My one word of advice to you is if your wired are to long, call your ortho and have them clipped. I went in to my ortho 4 days after I got my braces and I needed to have my upper wire clipped, it was shredding my cheek so badly. It was definitely much better, but I still needed wax while that spot healed.

Good luck!

Hi B,
I've been working late this week so just now checking in with you. Good to see things are better! No more wax sounds great. I have 2 upper hooks that I still put wax on at night.

You guys talking about pizza makes me hungry for it.

Tomorrow's Friday -- YEAH!

Hey Peb,

Well it's back on the wax, my ceramics are killing me. I've been really stressed out with work, management changes and my manager is transferring to another location and all the reps were reschuffled. I also picked up some kind of URI from my kids and I've been drinking a ton of fluids and taking lots of vitamins and my mouth is completely shredded up AGAIN!!! :soremouth:

Started back on the Rincinol and wax and I'm going to try some benzodent that the ortho gave me. Doing salt water rinses, yada, yada, yada. It sucks!!!

Have a great night! Yippee for Friday!!!
