Hi guys

Well i got my referal letter through this morning and ive got my 2nd consultation booked for 3.10pm on Friday 3rd August. This appointment is with the private orthodontist which my dentist referred me to. Im going to get myself a third consultation with another ortho but i will call them next week to book that.

So ive got just under a month to go until my appointment so im going to get myself prepared with lots of questions and not get my hopes up to much this time and it was such a let down last time. Im sure it wont be as bad though as ill be paying this time :lol:

Well i best get back to work :computer: and ill let you know when my other consultation is booked for. Hopefully it will be before the 3rd August so i wont have to wait too long.

speak to you soon

That sucks to be name called. Having metal braces is not so bad. But coming from the one that is not self consoius of my own teeth. Im used to it, I had wonky teeth for most of my life. I do believe linguals are expensive, cerimics is what most adults get. From all the readings I read :)

But good luck on your journey so far. :)

Good luck with the new ortho! That waiting to get the treatment is the pits! When my dentist referred me to the ortho, my consult appt was made for like a month later and then I had delay getting my spacers (which they were willing to do *that* day) because of vacation and then I had a tragedy in my family on my way home from vacation, so I delayed myself. Then when I called to set up the appt for spacers, I learned they were closed for the following next week. And then I had to wear the spacers for a week before getting the bracing appt lol. But now I've had them on for 4 days and I'm already seeing progress. So, while it does take a long time to get to your final destination (a beautiful smile), you do hit thousands of tiny milestones along the way that remind you of why you're doing this to yourself!

I've got ceramic uppers and metal lowers and, even though I cried when I found out I couldn't do Invisalign, now I'm very happy with the way things turned out. Because I'm a slow eater, I don't think Invisalign would've been the best for me, anyway. I look forward to hearing about your second consult and I hope the new ortho is a bit more friendly. I hate feeling rushed at a doctor appt...my son's pediatrician is much like that, but I like his method so much that it's not worth switching. My husband is in a professional line of work, so I guess I can see the other side of the fence sometimes, too...but he could've been a little more sympathetic when telling you that you couldn't do ceramics. It's hard to adjust to the idea of braces in the first place, but when even your "compromise" is shot down, it's a little emotional (hence why I cried over the stinkin' Invisaligns). I'm still a little self-conscious over my braces, but really...I'm getting over it quick.

Hi Hannah, and welcome! Haven't had a chance to comment yet, but I echo what's already been said -- you're almost assuredly doing the right thing regarding that second consultation. I'm not familiar with NHS -- we don't have that here in the U.S. -- but it does sound like the person you consulted with initially didn't show much interest in you! And you certainly want a positive, give-and-take relationship with your ortho!

I had an initial consult with a guy who was quite nice, but didn't want to treat me because he didn't want to open a "THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR.'s box" in terms of loosening what he termed as my "stable" teeth. I'm still trying to figure that one out!

As for Invisilign, like you I had initially hoped to get those, but the more I thought about it the more I leaned toward regular braces, so by the time I had my second consult I was not disappointed when I was told I was not a good candidate.

Best of luck -- I hope your second consut went well :!:

First off, a big "ditto" to what everyone else has already stated!

My first consultation was much like yours: rushed and without many answers. It is great that you are going in for a second opinion! Hopefully this one will provide you with what you need to know and answer all of your questions!

Looking forward to hearing how things went. :)

A second opinion could be very beneficial.

Hi Guys

Well i had my appointment on Friday and i felt that it went really well. Id definately feel very comfortable having my treatment done with them.

I got to my appoinment 10 minutes early and after 5 minutes waiting i went in. The ortho asked me how i was and what id been up to all day which was nice. He then asked me why i was looking into treatment. So i told him how i felt and what i wanted from the treatment.

He then had a look around my mouth and took some measurements, and then said that id possibly be looking at a treatment time of 12 to 15 months which would be great :D and that i would have to get four teeth taken out (2 upper & lower premolars one on each side) which i am fine with if it helps.

I asked about getting ceramic braces and he showed me the ones he uses (i cant remember the name but they are made out of man-made sapphire apparantly, i have the brochure at home so i will let you know what they are called).

We both then decided that it would be best if i had ceramics on my upper 6 front teeth and then metal on the rest.

He didnt give me a price at the consultation as he had to work some things out but i will be getting a letter in the post this week with a price quotation on it so ill let you all know when i get it.

Thanks for all the support everyone, It really means alot and keeps me going through these beginning stages.

Thanks so much

Hannah x

I'm glad the consultation went well. It looks like this ortho is more interested in making sure you'll be happy with everything that goes on!

Cheers! :-88

Hi guys :-1

Well i got my treatment plan through the door today so i best tell you what it says.

It says:

* My skeletal pattern is mild class II
* My labial segments are mild to moderately crowded
* My overjet is 8mm
* I have a complete overbite
* My centrelines are off
* My molar relationships are class I with a right sided buccal crossbite

:shock: Wow thats quite a few things that i need sorting out. I had no idea that my overjet was 8mm, (that is nearly a centimetre) i thought it was more about 4mm but i guess i was wrong.

I understand most of this but im going to speak to my ortho to get a better idea of what he means.

So back to the plan.

My treatment would be aimed at aligning the teeth and reducing my overjet and gummy smile.

* I would have my four first premolars extracted
* I would need a nance button for anchorage support
* and i would have Radiance TM ceramic braces on my upper anterior teeth and metal on the rest of my uppers and my lowers.

My treatment would take 15 months with visits every 6 weeks. After treatment i would need to wear a gum shield type retainer ( :shock: I hope he doesnt mean they actually look like gum shields, id look like a boxer lol) and i would have to wear this for at least a year.

The cost of my treatment is going to be £2150 which i can a payment plan for.

Ive got to say that i am so happy :dance: with this and that i will be having my treatment done with this ortho as he made me feel very comfortable and allowed me to ask questions.

I am going to book an appointment to have another chat just to clarify a few things and sort out my payment plan

Can anyone tell me what a nance button is and what it does. Also if anyone has had one of these could you let me know what it was like.

Thanks
Hannah

Great news Hannah, and that sounds quite cheap too. I've answered your other thread about Nance buttons, and posted a pic of mine for you to see. I'm glad you've found an ortho you feel comfortable with. It really makes the difference.

Yeah i'm very happy with the price i have been given. I just had a look at the picture that you left in metal mouth forum and thanks so much for showing me it. It doesnt look to bad but i bet it took a bit of time to get used to.

Yes thanks, it is great, i have been so excited waiting for my letter to come through. I definatly made the right decision on getting another consultation done.
Also thanks for the picture, i think i have seen these before but didnt know what they were called. I had a look at the website that you left on metal mouth and that cleared things up for me.

I know it sounds like a lot of things that need to be done but it sounds like they'll make quick work of it. Fifteen months isn't really all that long.
