I knew I hadn't been on for a while but I didn't realize quite how long it had been until I saw that there were so many unfamiliar names on here and my journal was on page 4!

Things have continued to progress since January, although it is less visible since most changes are very minor aesthetically and more related to bite. I was having some really sharp and intense jaw pain on my left side after attempting a chicken wrap one day and was was having difficulty talking and eating. I was feeling more than a tad worried about whether this would be a long term problem but thankfully my ortho had a look at what teeth were hitting in my bite and could see that one or two teeth were hitting and stopping the others from meeting. He levelled my bite a bit by taking a little off of the teeth that were hitting. I know that sounds weird but it's on the up and up. It's kind of like IPR but on the biting surfaces. Afterward, the teeth still looked the same but I suddenly had teeth meeting on both sides of my mouth. It was literally the next day that I got jaw relief. And it wasn't just relief from the intense "lock-jaw" type pain but I'm not even having the tight, tired feeling that I've been having for at least a year now. I'm very glad that got sorted so easily, and here's hoping that is the end of it.

I had an appointment today for my final refinement! I was expecting it to be only a few aligners but it turns out that I will have 19 more. Since I am using AcceleDent, that will only be 2 1/2 months, which isn't bad, and once I started thinking about it I realized that I find it really comforting knowing that my ortho's standards are really high and he wants an amazing result as much as I do...so 2 1/2 more months will be a blink. I think it is clear to see that the results are already amazing. I was lucky enough to get some photos emailed to me. While I was hoping to get the one or two most recent photos, I actually got home today and saw something even better! My initial consultation pics are in there too! I CANNOT believe the difference. And I can't believe how crazy crooked my teeth were. WHY on earth did I wait so long to do this?!

For anyone out there who has doubts about whether Invisalign can handle tough cases, I will let the pictures speak for themselves. FYI, the blue marks are from the marker tape that was used to check my bite.

It looks like it will only accept 2-3 pictures per post so I will post the bottom comparison pictures separately. What a difference!

And, finally, the most embarrassing picture but the one that has the most impact, for me. My first thought about posting this was "Lets hope no one I know ever sees this!" but then I realized I walked around like this for more than 15 years so...

Thanks, Spotted Pickle! I'm very, very happy with my new smile!

Yesterday was a big day in my world! I got my attachments off and got scanned for my Vivera retainer! WHOOT! The process is just about over and... I made it. Two and a half years ago I could barely sit down in the chair, my phobia was so prevalent. I have certainly not been the easiest patient and the process was not easy for me in the beginning but I have come so far thanks to the patience and perseverance of Dr. Tam and his team. I was told by other ortho's (and even my dentist) that this result would not be possible for me and definitely not with Invisalign. I'm glad I decided to travel in order to put myself under the care of someone who's abilities I felt comfortable with. Worth the time; worth the money; worth the anxiety of dealing with my fear.

When I go back for my retainer I will be getting my final records and I'll post photos if they are able to send me a copy. If there is anyone out there who isn't sure whether or not to take this on... Go for it! Do your research first and pick someone who has a lot of experience with Invisalign but then just jump in and do it. You won't regret it.
