Braces at age 30

#1 Post by LibraKiki »

I have traditional braces put on April 18th. The first 3-4 days were pretty painful as the metal dug into the insides of my mouth. I tried a bit of wax and that seemed to help but I found the wax would either fall off and I would have to reapply. I could feel pressure on my teeth but no real pain. A couple of weeks later I had my bottom incisor extraced as my bottom front teeth are quite crowded. The whole process was quick and almost painless. It was the waiting up till the moment that was making me jittery. There was no real bleeding after the extraction so all went well. I went back to my doctor to have the wire put back on and get my first trays for invisalign for the tops. I have 18 trays in total for the top teeth and can't wait as eating and making sure I rush to get my invisalign put back in quickly so I can try to wear them the recomended time of 22 hours a day. What a lifestyle change. I've cut out tea and all snacking as having to take them out and brush and floss after is getting tiresome. This time I feel a lot of pain on the two teeth on opposite sides of the extraction. I'm thinking because the braces are pulling the teeth closer together to fill the gap. It is day two since the wire went on and still very sore and can't eat any foods you need to chew. I have noticed the gap has closed a bit but that could be my imagination. I have another adjustment on June 2nd for my bottoms. I think I am getting a different wire put on but can't remember.

One other thing. I don't have any rubber bands that some people are talking about. I guess that means mine have self closing doors that don't require the bands? Does this mean I don't get to pick out pretty colored bands?

One week after the extraction and I can barely feel it. The gap is closing really quickly so it is hardly noticeable! Hooray! My invisalign on top is almost non existent. I barely know it's there except when I need to eat or brush and floss. One more week and I get to put in tray two! looking forward to it. I have been trying to be more adventurous with my foods as soft foods are getting a little repetitive. Ate a soft burrito the other day. It was a bit messy with my bottom wire but after a good floss and brush my mouth felt brand new. So atleast I know eating stuff you bite into can be done! :-)

Great to hear that everything is going well. I had my extraction 3 weeks ago and just like yours, mine is healing without a hitch. So I guess we're the lucky ones.

I am a little worried as I'm leaving for vaction beginning of June for a month. Hope I can keep on schedule with my invisalign and be able to eat most foods as I will have a new wire put in two days before I leave. :-)

Went in on Saturday and got a new wire put on. Think it was a 0.8 or something like that. Also got a pwoerchain put on about 5 teeth across my bottom teeth. It was a bit painful when she was stretching it on but no pain at all since the appointment. I guess I'm lucky. Extraction has healed well and the space has closed alsmost completely! Yay! Was really self conscious when I smiled but you can't even tell anymore.

I'm on tray 2 of my invisialign on top and everything has worked out and no pain even when I switched the tray last week.

Still a long road ahead but I have already seen a big difference in my teeth. Will try to post some before and after pics.

Well I am on tray 6 on the top and 3 months in on the bottom. I can feel my teeth are much straighter with my tongue. The gap is almost closed. Touching on the top of the teeth part and now just to get the roots moving. Doctor said next visit in 6 weeks she will start working on the root to get it closed fully. She put a power chain on all my bottom teeth. I have a bit of soreness but hopefully it will pass in the next week. I find

Eating with power chains is a bit of a pain. I find food gets stuck behind them and wrapped around the wire easier.

The top teeth I feel I haven't noticed too much movement. Doctor says the trays are moving the back teeth first and then will straighten and pull forward the two side canines. They aren't that crooked to begin with so the difference might be very minimal.

I have another 5 months left on top for the inviaslign and 15 months left on the bottom traditional braces.

Well I know it has been almost 6 months since my braces. I go in every 3-6 weeks for a tightening. I'm in my final wire size my doctor says. Can't say I have had much pain after each check up.

6 more trays left on top and about another 6 months left on the bottoms my ortho told me.

Can't wait to eat popcorn again!
