Hi MsBee!

Okay, I am officially jealous of your upper arch... (That sure sounds funny, doesn't it?) It looks perfect. I pray mine ends up like that. I think I may be one of those who is happy with whatever she can get from this process. Anything is an improvement over what my teeth looked like 5 months ago. Heck - even what they look like NOW... with a GAP... is better than before.

Keep up the positive attitude, and have a great week!

-Cathy

I've been busy travelling so I've not been updating much...

But I just had to drop a line to say that my ortho just put in finishing wires for me today!! Am I stoked! I know this isn't the end of the road yet, but I think I'll be done earlier than the inital estimate of 2 years, coz the clinic staff have asked me to pay up more up front, instead of the usual 24-month "installments".... :jump: :jump:

Gosh, I really can't wait for my next appointment....it's so exciting to see them moving to their optimal positions.

Thanks so much everyone for dropping by to read my story and for all the encouragement, sorry that I've not been able to leave comments on your threads....I'll pop by again soon with photos. =)

Cosmo and Cathy - glad to know you both are doing well! :D

Ok so here're the photos.
I've got my finishing wire for both upper and lower. I've also got this nice silver coloured power chain for my upper row which blends in nicely with the brackets - I can't pull off funky colours  The power chain isn't painful at all! Phew!
The upper incisors are tilted - the finishing wire is supposed to correct that, as well as the levels of the teeth.

The bite will improve further I hope, but right now I'm pretty much eating anything I want - veggies are still difficult though.

I must say food isn't getting stuck as badly as before - is that a common experience?

I've also included photos of my profile in silhouette - you can see that it truly is protrusive, and it's not my imagination =( Sigh. I think it is something I need to compromise on coz I didn't have extractions....

Thanks for dropping by rhomboid =)

Ok, it's been half a year, time flies!

Here're the photos.

The central incisors are still tilted to my right, my ortho is trying to correct that.

It's not so obvious, post IPR, this shows that the teeth stick out less, and there's more of an overjet which I'm happy with coz that feels more natural to me.

I'm far from finished, but there's progress!
2 days to next adjustment!

Had my most painful adjustment yesterday.

Some of my brackets were repositioned so that my tooth roots can be rotated. Removing the brackets was awful...She popped off the brackets (pretty ok, not too painful), and then removed the bonding material - man! that was bad. I felt so much pressure on my teeth...and the scraping sound was just awful.

On the up side, coz she took off the brackets, I got to see my naked upper incisors and canines, and they sure looked good!
Can't wait to have them all off!

She put new "regular" (non-SL) brackets on my upper social 6...so now I've got a mixture of Damons and non-SLs.

I must say, even though the non-SL brackets have a flatter profile, they are much rougher than the Damon brackets. I suspect that this may be why I didn't have major ulcers/abrasions throughout my treatment. The Damon brackets allow me to slide my lips and tongue over them (eg to remove food), but I can't do that for the non-SLs, they feel like irregular wires...

I wonder how long more I have to go, I feel so close to the end! I won't ask my orthodontist coz I don't want to put her on the spot, or be given false expectations!

Next adjustment after Christmas so I get to enjoy my food!
:) :)

My adjustment is in 2 days time. Just a couple of photos to document my progress, and to show the regular (non-SL) brackets that were put on during the last appointment.

End of the road!

#59 Post by msbee »

Hi everyone! I've got great news! I'm at the end of my treatment! woohoo! :jump: :jump:

My ortho says we can aim to deband in May! =) My appointment is in 2 weeks, hope all goes well!

Well, there are a few things that I wish could be better - like how I feel my lower lip protrudes more than before, and that my midline is not perfectly aligned...But I guess without extractions, I have to accept that my teeth will flare out a little more; and the midline is really off by less than 1mm, so it's not noticeable in person.

What I'm happy about - upper incisors don't jut forward (my main problem!), the lower teeth are now straight, and my ortho also shaved down the edges of my incisors so they aren't so jagged anymore.

So overall, I've had a relatively pain free year in braces, and I'm really looking forward to the next part of the journey! I'm probably gonna get both Hawley's and Essix retainers.

Thanks everyone for being supportive and for sharing your stories...Even though I don't post very much, reading about your experiences has been such a great help!

As usual, here are the pics, not perfect, but a huge improvement from before =)

Your teeth look great! And only a year in braces?? Sooo lucky!! I feel like I've had quite a bit of movement in only a month and a half, so here's to hoping I'm not in them long either! I think that your midline looks perfect, so I wouldn't worry about that too much, and the change in your profile is really not noticeable, but we're always our worst critics, right? Congrats on such a short treatment time and such great results!
