Hey Smiley! I hope those teeth have stopped hurting ya! I know that's no fun at all! Especially when you cant enjoy a yummy steak! :D

I'm sure your teeth are looking absolutely beautiful as always. I'm so anxious for my appointment. I'm crossing my fingers that they take off these metal springs and get me fitted with some powerchains! The springs suck!

Hang in there!!!

Sabrina - If you have a stretch of bare wire and you just can't cope with it I would definitely say something. I tried to bear with it but I just couldn't manage with my square wire digging into my lips and cheek.

Kara - Luckily I didn't get springs, though I came really close to getting a mini-screw implant if these rubberbands didn't start moving something, ANYTHING. But they're working out fine and I still have my powerchains, I actually like my power chains better than my single lig ties.

Amybetty - Steak, I have not had since then, but I did have fried chicken two nights in a row! Boy did it feel great to eat some food with crunch.

I haven't been on as much because I have been working at work. I am back working at the oral surgery office and boy have we had tons of patients who have not taken care of their mouths! We've had 2 patients come in in a week, AGAIN, to have their remaining teeth extracted from too much bone loss for full dentures. Bone loss which they got from gum disease and never thought to go to a dentist for preventive care! 20 something year olds with rotted away teeth all chipped and only root tips remaining. It's not like these people come from underprivileged families or don't have the money to spend on their health. I just don't get it. I see these patients and am really thankful that I still have some hope even with all of my crowns and root canals.

I had my adjustment yesterday! Once the wire came out, I was told to brush and after using my Sonicare, I saw a couple spots of plaque in my lowers that I hadn't seen when I was cleaning around the powerchains. I showed the asst and she said she'd take care of it. She told me that my teeth were clean and it was just because of having more saliva being produced. She also told me to tell the assistants anytime I saw build up and that they would help me out with it. Too bad it was just behind the and it has been hard to see due to the powerchain. GEEZ! Maybe I'll go in for cleanings more often. My elastics changed from a class III on my left to a class II and my right side is still a class II. I'm still using the non-latex GAC ones and it's called "Bern" Had a hard time getting the left side in once I got into my car, after having many rubberbands fly about my car, I decided to head back in. The ortho asst took a look and tried to put it in and since it too flew across the room, she called the ortho over. He took a look and said there was some cement around the hook so there was just enough room for the power chain to hook on. He pulled the hook further out and scraped off the glue. He poked my gums a couple times but no bleeding! I got clear powerchains again. NO pics yet!

Hi Miss Smiley

Your teeth look fantastic. They are soo pretty and white.

I dont think i have eaten much steak since i have had my braces on. I do love my steak and i am sure i would be ok to eat it as i have mine medium rare. I might have to have some once my next adjustment has settled down abit.

How long have you got left on your estimated treatment time?

All the best

Cleaning around powerchains is sooooo annoying! I remember in my first several months of having braces when I had a powerchain on NINE of my lowers, it was really hard to clean it out after eating. I was annoyed to DEATH!

But they move the teeth faster, so they are a blessing!

Now that I've used this post to rant about me, I've looked over what you've updated since I last saw; I'm really glad you're making such great progress, and happy belated one year braceaversary!

bracedagain - Yeah, good thing I wasn't trying to get those elastics in while driving, like I did before. People would have been laughing at my looks of horror and my elastics were pinging around the car. I pay my dentist with no money as he is a friend of my brother's from dental school, my brother pays him with dinner and drinks. I asked him if I should be coming more often but he says my teeth have been really clean and there was no need. My ortho's assistant tells me that they would scale the tartar whenever I saw any, just to let her know. It's just between the lower front 6, where I can't really see behind the powerchain. I'm going to try Listerine Tartar Control, we'll see if it helps.

hannah - Thank you! Hopefully they look better once they're naked! You've only been braced for 3 months, give your teeth some time, you'll be tearing up your medium rare steak in no time! I spoke to an ortho, not mine, but he knew exactly where I was in my treatment and how long I've been in treatment! He told me I should be done within a year. This ortho I asked actually approached me about who was doing my treatment .He was a local ortho coming to my office's "Open House" since we remodeled . (I work at an OS office and we had tons of orthos and dentists coming in.) Anyhow, I had asked my ortho last month or so and he said something about a year, not sure if he was saying it has been a year or if I had a year left. Right now we're just closing my bite up. I'm not sure how close to being done that is. Maybe I'm medium rare or medium.

Jenn - Thank you for the braceversary acknowledgment! OMG I had power chains since day one of my lowers!!!! Right now it just seems as though my bite is being addressed and not sure about the need for powerchains. Though, it may be because I have a gap opening as those teeth are being pulled over to help the midline and bite closing.

Denise - I still have problems because the hook is still very close to my gums. Today, I found elastics on my towel and the other day it was on the knee of my jeans.

*melissa* - My ortho placed that tubing on it and kept it a little short so it wouldn't constrict movement of my teeth.

My teeth have been sore on and off again. Stupid elastics....I have another adjustment coming up on Thursday, shouldn't be anything more than a lig change. I'm hoping to hear something about a debanding date sometime this year. *crosses fingers* But highly doubt I will.

Many a things happened at my adjustment today. I got a new upper wire, it's gold plated but it doesn't look like it in the pics below and it's round 18 instead of my usual niti rectangular ones. I also got a spring, the rubberbands weren't doing much to correct my midline. Bad news to this, is that my gap between my upper left lateral and upper left canine will be re-opening. I have a spring to push the upper arch around for now. I am rubberbandless for now! I had 4 brackets repositioned, boy did those suckers hurt! No powerchains today but my teeth are pretty sore.

Here are some updated pictures for you to see my new spring!

Denise - 2 steps back? My teeth feel as though they're back at day 1. Just as I thought I was getting close to the finish line, they throw in 4 repos and my teeth are pretty sore. I've have pain killers the first to days. Now I'm still sticking to soft foods because biting into anything is just out of the question.

melissa - Thank you :D I sure wish debanding was coming up soon, with all this work being changed around, I'm not quite sure when debanding will be. A couple adjustments ago, the ortho said about a year or so left. Now, I'm thinking it might be longer because the rubberbands weren't working correctly. Now I have this tiny spring that is causing me so much pain.

TheNewEmperor - thanks for the extra support! I'm just waiting for the day when he brings up d-day and re-doing my crowns.

Just when I thought that my bite was as tight as it would be, my teeth feel so much better today! They oddly feel really tight like I am wearing rubberbands and a powerchain. It feels so good knowing that my two arches are becoming more closely knit!!! I am so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
