Haha, no worries on the picture front. I will probably be snapping pictures of my teeth hour by hour for the next 18-24 months to keep track of every little itty bitty movement.

Just a wee bit excited. Just slightly. I thought I'd mention it because I don't think my excitement is noticeable. Excitement!

;)

I was standing in front of the mirror this morning, looking at my teeth and trying to imagine what they will look like when they are straight, how long it will take for me to notice a change, what teeth are going to move first, etc. I hope I am not this obsessive the entire time because I am going to wear myself out! I'm surprised that I haven't started dreaming about teeth yet...

Hi Fluffy! That's so cool you got to move up that brace date! Yea! :D

You'll obsess over your teeth for a month or so and then the obsession will slightly fade until you notice something new... a tiny gap where there wasnt before... teeth that are lining up perfectly that werent before... stuff like that... then you'll obsess over that until you forget about it. LOL :)

It's exciting... I cant wait for my next adjustment! My next adjustment and your brace day are on the same day I think! :D

Good luck and I cant wait to see pictures and hear all about it!

HA! Kara, the obsession is about to begin in FULL FORCE because, to quote Lil' Orphan Annie:

TOMORROW! TOMORROW!
I LOVE YA, TOMORROW!
IT'S ONLY A DAY AWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!

Tomorrow is the big day! 8:40aI'll be at the orthodontist's office getting braces put on my top arch. I'm planning on using some chapstick and taking some ibuprofen (and some anti-saliva pills they gave me) beforehand. How else should I prepare?

I can't think of anything more you need to do apart from what you said, it's a good idea to use the bathroom beforehand but as you're having just your top arch done you probably won't be in the chair that long. I found having braces put on totally okay, I was super excited too!! though it does feel quite strange when they first put the wires on and also when you feel the bumpiness of the barckets against your inner lips!

I hope it all goes well - I'm sure it will :D

Hi Fluffy,

Good luck tomorrow. My 2 cents on the anti-saliva pills, I was such a nervous wreck on my brace day, my mouth was so dry, that I didn't even need them.

Can't wait to see your pics!

CHAPTER ONE: BRACE DAY

Finally! Finally, finally, I have my braces on! Well, on my top arch, at least. They feel pretty weird and it seems like my lips need to stretch or something to be able to fit over them. Haha! But I am super excited because now it is real. Now I'm actively on the path toward straight teeth and not being ashamed of my smile anymore.

I dreamed about braces last night. In my dream, the back brackets kept popping off and I would have to hold them in place with my fingers. The orthodontist office was in this weird subterranean complex. Very high tech! I woke up and laughed about it because I think it is funny that braces are ON THE BRAIN!

They gave me some pills to take before my appointment that would reduce the amount of saliva in my mouth. 45 minutes after taking them, they didn't seem to be doing much other than drying out my eyeballs. However, on the drive over to the office, the pills kicked in and my mouth and throat went really dry.

I arrived and they got me into the chair pretty quickly. The assistant put in the lip spreader as well as some cotton pads to keep my inner-cheeks away from the back molars. She cleaned my teeth and then sprayed it with this .. dry, gritty stuff. It didn't taste bad it was just odd! Once my teeth were ready, she put the tray with my brackets on my teeth. The orthodontist had figured out exactly where they should go using the mold she took two weeks earlier so the brackets were perfectly positioned in the tray. I had to bite down and hold it tight for a few minutes while the glue did its thing. Then she pried the tray off and had me rinse out my mouth. One of the brackets came off with the tray so the orthodontist came over to put that one on herself. She got really excited when looking at my mouth and told me that my teeth were going to start moving very quickly -- I hope she's right! After the lone bracket was attached, the assistant had me rinse and brush my teeth again. Then it was time for the wire! It went in pretty easily and all the doors closed without difficulty.

At that point, she went over hygiene with me and showed me how to use the floos threader. I told her that I was planning on getting a waterpik too and she gave me this funny look. I thought she was going to be all:

'Oh no, don't use those! Those are bad!'

..which I found really confusing because everything I have heard about them has been positive. However, she didn't say that at all! Instead, she informed me that they were giving me a waterpik so I didn't have to buy one myself! I was pretty jazzed about that because now I can spend my Target gift certificate on something else. WHOO HOO!!

Next step is making an appointment for the tooth exposure. They showed me the 3D x-ray they took of my head and my impacted canine looks like it is all the way up in my nasal cavity. Those xrays, by the way, were SO COOL. Holy moly. I wish I could get copies (or, well, that I could get copies without spending a heap of money) because it is so totally rad to see a picture of my skull from a bazillion different angles. Because it is full color and so crisp, it seriously looks like someone took my head, peeled away the skin and muscles, and took pictures of my skull.

They didn't have a date for me in regard to putting brackets on the lower arch -- the top teeth need to do some moving first so my overbite gets corrected. As it is now, I'd just be biting off the lower brackets. First adjustment is in 10 weeks; we'll see how things are shaping up then.

Here's a quick picture. I will post some more later from various angles and all that but for now, I think I wanna make myself some lunch and soak in the tub.

THANKS FOR ALL THE SWEET WISHES, GUYS! Whee-haw!

Thanks Crystal!

I have been in bed most of the day with a migraine (so no new pictures yet; tomorrow!). I don't think it was triggered by my teeth though -- I have been so excited about getting braces that I haven't been sleeping particularly restfully lately and I didn't eat a whole lot yesterday. So far, I'm not really experiencing any pain or soreness.

But!

My bite is already different. My teeth are making contact on my canines and my back molars dooon't quite touch. It's such a trip that things have already changed in only 12 hours!

I am contemplating dinner now and I am not quite sure what to eat. I am thinking of ordering a pizza (avoiding the crust of course and cutting it up into teeny tiny pieces).

fluffy,

Congratulations!!!
And thanks for the pic! That's SO cool :) Little blue dots?
What, no ligs??? Later?

It's better than excellent that your Ortho gave you a WaterPik. You will learn to love it :)

Careful with your meal at first... you don't want to pop off one of those snazzy new brackets so soon, right?

I'll be right behind you soon. 12 days for my upper. Your enthusiasm really helps. I'm pretty excited too! I have to wait for my overbite to change before the lowers go on, just like you.

Cheers!
Christopher

I have self-ligating brackets so I won't need ligatures; the dots are just to indicate to the orthodontist which bracket was to go where. She told me that they will eventually go away with brushing.

I ended up having meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner and, I dunno man! I don't think it has ever tasted so good as it did tonight! YUMMY!

I'm still not feeling any pain or soreness and the brackets are not irritating the inside of my mouth at all; I haven't had to use wax thus far. I was able to brush and floss and use the little in-betweener brush too -- although I think there is some glue between some of my teeth because I could NOT for the life of me get the floss up between some of my teeth.

I'm excited for you, insinu8! It sounds like we have very similar situations and we're starting roughly the same time. Race you to the finish line?

;)

Oh! One bit of pain: I sneezed and, in doing so, ended up biting down really hard. OH. MY. GOD. It hurt SOOOOOO badly! Luckily, the pain went away but gosh. Now I know that I don't want to chomp down like that again anytime soon.

Hi Fluffy,

Yay! Another Damon buddy!! :D I found mine didn't really bother my mouth either(only used wax on two molar brackets for the first few days). My lowers bothered me more(felt like little bee stings) but only for the first 2 days. Since then, it's been smooth sailing.

I had glue in two different spots when I had my lowers put on, too. I just called my ortho and they got me in a few days later and removed it. It was a little uncomfortable since my teeth were still sensitive but I was glad to have it gone! And, of course, those teeth can't move if they're glued together so I'd call and get in to have it removed.

Glad to hear you're doing well so far!! :D
Keep smilin'! :)
