Metalmom- I'm hoping that will be when I find out. The Ortho said that once he comes back from his vacation he's going to study the most recent mold of the uppers. I assume he would need to know ahead of doing the records, but I've been wrong before!

Going to the ortho can be like birthday gifts. Sometimes you get cool toys, a new bike, a surprise party, something bada$$ you know?! Other times, you can get some lame stuff like white athletic socks, a highliter set, binder clips, coasters...
Upper and lower 1st premolars extracted
Uppers braced 4/6/07 & Lowers braced 4/20/07
ceramic brackets and rectangular arch wires
Est. term: 30-36 months
De-banded: 3/04/09 w/ LBR and U&L Essix

*sigh*
Frustrated.
The Ortho was supposed to get back to me on the 4th about the next phase of treatment and the next appointment day, but repeated calls to the office have gotten me no response, save for the receptionist saying that she's left a note for him and he'll call when he's got a chance. I don't think it's the dentist that's putting it off, I think the issue here is the receptionist. I'm sure if she told him directly then he would call me right away. I don't have the time to go in and talk to him, I just want the phone call!! Grrr.
Still waiting....

Had a hectic week last week, and an even crazier weekend. I got an appointment (finally) and it is for tomorrow morning at 10:40. I have the whole day off, so I may just treat myself to a bubble bath afterwards and some ice cream.

Thanks for waiting with me, my friends! I will let you all know tomorrow how my appointment went and what I know.... :)

See you then!!

Wow what an appointment I had today!!

The plan was to take off the expander to do the new impressions, then put it back on again until we were ready to roll. I went in at 10:30, early as usual, and they ushered me in and handed me the remote. I only had to wait a few minutes for the doc to come in, and he brought with him all my impressions. He showed me how my teeth used to connect, how they connect now, and which teeth needed to move where to get the best bite.
In order to get invisalign to work on the top, we would need more space between one or two other teeth. We could do this, he said, with 'slenderizing'- basically shaving millimeters off the sides of a few teeth to get the total amount of space needed. On the bottom, we would need to remove the one tooth in order to allow the top teeth the fit nicely over the bottoms. (Outlined in a previous post of mine). Now if I were to go with traditional braces, it could be done without extractions or slenderizing, but if I want invisalign, it can happen if I did. So.... of course I said let's do it!!! :-)o

He took off the expander and slenderized I don't know how many teeth up top LOL. Then he froze my bottom jaw and removed the incisor, and slenderized one or two teeth there also. Impressions were done, etc., and then he attempted to put the expander back on, but it did not want to go back in there. He gave up LOL so now I am completely naked!! :jump:

My entire mouth is sensitive where it isn't frozen, and I'm starving. Note to others: EAT before going in, cuz you may not be able to coming out!

He wants to get the Invisalign trays back as soon as possible so the top teeth don't have a chance to move now that the expander's not there, so I'm looking at two weeks til I get them. He also mentioned that the first few bottom trays may have an opaque white spot precisely where the extraction space is so it won't look so obvious. Honestly, though, you can't really even see it when I'm just talking. But neat nonetheless.

So here's yet another attempt at comparison shots from the beginning and today.

This one on the left (sorry I guess top- still trying to perfect my picture posting skills!) was taken a few weeks ago, I don't have a front pic from the beginning, but you get the jist of it. :)
You can also see in the top right pic where the expander was really really irritating the inside of my teeth. It feels soooooo good to not have it there anymore. Very tender, but sooo good! I think I might skip the ice cream I planned on having this afternoon, though because I'm afraid the temperature change might hurt me somehow.

Anyway, thank you all for checking in! Now that I know I have Invisalign coming my way, I'm going to read up on that section of the boards and not feel guilty!!!

Thank you KK! I do remember how soothing the salt water rinses were when I first got the expander, and I'm keeping a second salt shaker in the bathroom as I did before. I know it will only be a mater of days that it will start feeling better. Today my chin hurts a little- from the extraction- and the top teeth are a little sensitive, but otherwise everything is great! I am so excited to finally feel like the process is really moving!

Finally!! I am in my invisalign!! It took a lot longer than the doc thought, as he had a lot of buttons to put on, and the teeth had shifted a bit from being out of the expander for the past few weeks, but we got it! :D

I have 26 lowers and 34 uppers, so assuming everything stays on track, I'm looking at 1 year, 4 months (less for the bottoms). I thought for sure it would be at least two years, so I am very excited!!!

I got to view my clincheck, and got tears in my eyes- they are going to look so good and I can't wait! I also spoke to him about bleaching, and he said he can sell me a whole tray full of tubes for $60, and I can use the Invisalign trays to apply it. I am going to give myself some time to get used to the trays before I start putting that stuff on my teeth to avoid the added irritation. My next appointment is in 6 weeks, so that will be when I purchase those.

Got to run- can't snack between meals, so I'm very much looking forward to getting dinner into me as soon as possible! :) I will post pictures when I get a chance, but trust me, they just look like teeth with plastic on them.
