***ONE YEAR IN BRACES***

Last Saturday was my official anniversary! One year down... somewhere between six months and eighteen more months to go!

Yesterday was also my regular monthly adjustment... these things just keep getting easier and easier (as of late). Nothing special to report. I had a few tie wires changed/tightened and found out when I'll be getting my wisdom teeth removed (mid January). According to my Dentist/Ortho at this point we're basically just waiting for an uncooperative molar to get in line and after that it's just a matter of the "finishing" stage. The molar is moving... slowly. Though, I was told that in the long run this is actually a good thing... slow moving molars = strong bones.

I'll try to get some update pictures posted soon... though, in all honesty there hasn't been much noticable change.

Hi Danielle!,

I just caught up with your story, and am finding it inspirational! I was noticing how much your pics remind me of my own maloclusion -- in inward-slanting shape of the arch looks exactly like my lower arch.

Keep up the amazing progress :D

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I can't believe it's already been a year--and things have progressed so well during that time. I'm kind of at a "stand still" right now (with all the focus on my molar) but I have to say that I'm thrilled with all my progress so far!

Good luck to all of you!

September Update Time!

Tuesday was my Ortho adjustment appointment... same old drill (well, the actual drill wasn't used -- thank goodness!) Anyway, there isn't too much to report, it was the usual -- a new rubber band (and a fun configuration) added on my right side, my molar is starting to come along and join the rest of my teeth in that ever wideing "U" shape I'm starting to get and that's about it. Except for my Ortho seriously pushing for me to get Lumineers once my treatment is over... if I act now I can lock in the low low price of only $1100 per tooth! I told her I'd think about it and probably agree once I win the lottery or get a serious raise at work!

Updated pics will be added when I finally get around to adding the updated pics from the last couple of months! Or, maybe I should just give into my laziness and hold all pictures until the end... hmm.

Wow ... $1,100 per tooth ... why does your ortho what you to do this?
For mostly cosmetic reasons. I have a tooth that never came in and as a result my teeth (no matter how straight) will always look slightly off balance. I'm fine with it... Lumineers look great and it would be nice, but at this point I'm way more focused on finishing my orthodontic treatment.

Wow, Danielle! I've just read throguh your story, and first off I want to say that you are a talented writer- I feel like I'm reading a great novel!!

In your first post, for some reason I can't see the initial picture of your teeth on day one with braces. Maybe it's just my computer today- I will keep checking back to see if it pops up. But the few pictures I've seen show an amazing progress!

The conga line is hilarious! I've read of some neat and fun ways to celebrate deband day, but never that! I know for sure that someone never having undergone ortho treatment would fail to see the thrill in that, but I WANT ONE! LOL

I will keep checking back in on your story!!

November Update Time!

I skipped over my October update because their wasn't one! I swiched jobs in early October and had to reschedule my appointment for early November... Anyway, my treatment is coming along great! I had a panoramic x-ray and some new pictures (profile and the ones with the mirror) taken. My Ortho said that my changes are about 95% complete and she repositioned two brackets to help move along their roots. All in all it was a very comfortable visit!

I'll try to get some pictures posted... I know it's been a long time.

December Update Time!

This evening was my December update. The good news: the braces are most likely coming off within the next six months!!! The not so good news: The wisdom teeth will be removed in February. The bad news: My January ortho appointment is going to be rough. I'm scheduled for a wire change (OUCH) and a deep cleaing (DOUBLE OUCH).

On top of all that I'm starting to seriously consider getting Lumineers for my top six teeth once the braces come off. The only thing besides the price tag making me think Lumineers might not be a good idea is this... I know everyone here can relate to not having a good smile and how great it is once you can smile... so here's my problem all along I've always thought I'd be happy with any improvement. Now that I have that "any improvement" that I thought was good enough I still want more. You know what I mean? Now I'm seeking perfection. And there's nothing "wrong" with wanting that, but will it end at Lumineers? Will I turn into the Cat Lady or Michael Jackson... someone who won't stop trying to improve their appereance because they're always chasing perfection?

Okay, enough with the deep thoughts. For right now I'm gonna focus on the next six months. Thanks for listening.
