Waiting for Hawley Retainer

#1 Post by Karen118 »

Hi Everyone:

I'm almost finished Invisalign Express. I will be getting retainers on Monday (November 2nd). My orthodontist is leaning towards permanent bonded retainers for both top and bottom. I had braces years ago but was not diligent in wearing my top retainer (Hawley). That's why I have Invisalign Express now to correct minor shifting.

I would like only a permanent retainer for the bottom and a Hawley retainer for the top. Obviously, I will be extremely diligent in wearing the Hawley this time around. The reason I prefer a top Hawley--easier to floss and I have read that it allows for minor adjustments to be made.

Just wondering--From the time the impressions are done, how long will it take for the Hawley retainer to be ready?

I had molds taken at about 10:00 am the day I got my braces off. I picked up my Hawleys at 3:30 in the afternoon.

It's much safer with permanent retainers top and bottom! Why take a chance after going through this twice?

I prefer the removable Hawley Retainer for the top because I remember the fixed bonded retainer made flossing so difficult.
