Gum Recession due to Bonded Retainer??

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Gum Recession due to Bonded Retainer??

#1 Post by ktr78 »

I have had a bonded retainer on my upper front 4 teeth for about 6 months. I've had a sensitive gum line on those 4 teeth since lately. When I take a mirror to look at the back of my teeth, I see that my gums have receded into points. The glue holding the wire on my teeth is all the way at my gum line and I believe it is causing the problems I am having.

Has anyone else experienced this? I want to get the whole thing removed but worry my teeth will not be stable without it. My teeth were very loose when my braces came off.

No responded to my post but I wanted to give an update in case it can help others in the future. At my ortho appt this week, I mentioned my concern and ortho said the glue could definitely be irritating my gums. He scraped away some of the extra glue at the gumline. Took 2 mins. My gums feel much better now. Easy fix.
