Glue stained/flossing around permanent retainers

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Glue stained/flossing around permanent retainers

#1 Post by Voix »

I had permanent retainers applied last week and the glue (on the bottom one, at least) has stained yellow already.

Should I be concerned?

Additionally, how do you floss around them?

You floss above the wire like normal. To get underneath the wire you need floss with a stiffened tip and push it in at the gumline.

About a minute into this video it demonstrates flossing:

I think they sell special floss for this.
