Permanent Retainers

#1 Post by Silas »

So ive had these permanent retainers on for a while now, and quite honestly im sick and tired of them. I can floss the teeth which they cover, and they are irritating my tounge. Also i love studying foreign languages and these things sometimes get in the way when trying to pronounce words. I know some people who dont mind the retainers but I absolutely HATE them. I dont like complaining but im simply fed up with them. Does anyone else feel the same way i do?

When i last spoke with my orthodontist he told me that if i remove the retainers my teeth would move back, but in all honesty i think these things are for his convinience where as they are a huge pain in my butt, or mouth i guess. Well one of my wires poped out and i have to make an appointment and i plan to confront my orthodontist about these retainers.

Does anyone know of specific alternatives to these permanent retainers? Or has anyone else had problems with them? I figured if i tell him to remove them he cant say no, but i dont want my teeth to move back which is why im willing to wear a REMOVABLE retainer. Its sad that i got my braces taken off almost a year ago, but i still have to deal with these which are almost just as bad.

From what I've heard if you don't wear your retainer, your teeth will shift back to where they were. You can discuss removable retainers with your orthodontist. After having braces for a year I wanted no part of something else permanent in my mouth. I have a Hawley retainer and it's working okay for me.

i got debraced yesterday, and more than anything in the world i wanted the permanent retainers. unfortunately, they could only give me the lower one, they really tried to give me an upper one but my lower teeth kept hitting on the upper permanent retainer, and i had no bite because of it, so they had to remove it. i really needed that upper retainer to hold one tooth from getting shorter again. i am getting my essix retainers tomorrow and i really hope they will do the job, because i've been debraced once before,a few months back, and fitted with upper and lower Hawleys, and they did not do their job.
