Essix - getting them in help needed.

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Essix - getting them in help needed.

#1 Post by Spanner »

Hi everyone :)

I got my braces off yesterday and picked up my essix retainers today just 2 hours ago. My ortho seemed to have no trouble getting them in and out but since I've got home I can't get them back in again. Is there some kind of knack to getting them in? He seemed in a rush with a surgery full of patients waiting and I wasn't given any advice. Am I supposed to warm them a little in warm water to aid insertion?

Thanks in advance.

No need to warm them. Mine were pretty tight for the first week b/c the retainers were still moving 3 of my teeth. They didn't fit properly at all for the first 48 hours. I was told to put them in and then bite gently on a cotton roll to get them seated properly. After 24 hours I could get them in without the cotton, but they still didn't seat well. But after a week, I could pop them in and out easily. Try the cotton trick. If they still don't fit after a day, call your ortho.

Thanks so much for your reply :)

I phoned my ortho and he said that my teeth had "relaxed" overnight lol  and I need to just must be firmer and apply more pressure to get them in and I have succeeded. Once my teeth have gone back to how they were it will be easier I'm sure.

Oh what joy
