Retainer Cleaning Tips

#1 Post by SDFD TSchott »

Just thought I would pass this on from an Orthodontist here in town!

Make a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 3 parts water
Soak the retainer for 15-20 minutes
Rinse and brush with toothpaste
Repeat 1-2 times weekly.

Have you actually tried this? My partner wears a mouthgard but has something against using "chemicals" to clean her appliance. I find the thing revolting as it only gets cleaned twice a year in an autoclave. Your feedback is much appreciated!

I haven't used it but many friends that have had braces and now in retainers have tried it and say it works good. the key is use of vinegar and water while then after it soaks for some time "RINSE and BRUSH them!"

I actually bought a kit on Dentakit.com. Love it! Soak for 15-30 min daily and you are done! I have had the retainers since the 2nd and they look great!
