Extremely sensitive teeth!

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Extremely sensitive teeth!

#1 Post by Treehugger »

Hi Everyone,

I had my debonding on 4/20 and since then have been experiencing extreme sensitivity with all of my teeth whenever I eat anything cold or acidic (e.g. pineapple). I at first was using my ortho fluoride rinse every night and that wasn't helping, so I bought some Sensodyne toothpaste and that isn't working either. If I have my mouth open to talk or laugh outside and the wind blows on my teeth, it hurts.

It's been over a month, shouldn't this sensitivity be gone by now? Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks!

I had mine off on 24th May and my teeth, on the top right hand side are VERY sensitive. I guess it takes a while for them to settle down. I think we have to remember that the retension phase is just as much part of the process as the actual bracing. :D

sensitivity

I actually had extremely sensitive teeth before braces and nothing worked. I had to get one tooth pulled just because even a slightly cool air would cause me intolerable pain. I've also been using a prescription sensitive toothpaste for years because the ones in the stores don't work. It's called Prevident, if you want to ask your dentist about it. But I'll be wearing braces for two years, and I don't know what it's like when they're off and if my teeth will get really sensitive again.
