Are your very back molars supposed to touch?

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Are your very back molars supposed to touch?

I just realized that my back molars do not touch, and am wondering if this is normal. Sort of makes me sad.

Mine don't touch either. At first I was kind of sad, but nobody but you will EVER know it. I think it is normal.

When I eat, food gets stuck in between my back molars and it hurts! I wear my retainers all the time. Is there any chance that my teeth will move just a little so that they don't have enough space to get food stuck in between them?

Do you mean they don't touch like, top tooth to bottom tooth, or that there is a gap between the teeth on the upper or lower jaw? In both instances they should touch.
