Hi everyone. I had my braces for about 4 years. And then I move to another state. I need to remove my braces and get a retainer. I went to see the orthodontist near my area and he told me that it would cost me $200 to remove the braces and $600 for the invisible retainers (for the upper and lower). Do you think that is too expensive? Or it is regular prices.

I live in Cleveland, Ohio

Thanks so much

My doctor said that a replacement invisible retainer for me should I need one would be $100 if they still have the models. Otherwise they would have to take new models and it would be more expensive. I'd just ask them to break down the cost for the retainer for you, though I'm sure it would include them making new models.

Mine were included in the treatment cost. It does sound a little expensive, but reading online I've seen people say that replacing regular ones are about $400. So $600 sounds about right. Better to ask other local orthos for quotes than ask a forum.

Here in Vancouver Canada, Vivera retainers (the same company that makes Invisalign) are somehwere along the lines of 300 bucks for both top andbottom arches... the catch is, you get SIX sets of upper and lower arches!!! Sweeet! My essix's are getting old and a complain chewed up, so next visit, I will get my Viveras.

Also, my ortho was awesome when I broke my first pair of bottom essixs... I was expecting a 100dollar charge, but it gave it to me free. IMO, 600 sounds steep, but then again he isa new ortho and has no records of your treatment etc...

$300 per arch is not out of line.
$200 to remove the braces is actually a bit inexpensive, particularly as most docs will take some records (at least photos) for bracket removal.

I am in Cleveland too. Stay warm :D

Can you take that $800 to go back to where you moved from and see your original Ortho? It should be included in what you paid for your original treatment. Then you get a trip out of the money.

I live in southern ohio....and I just had my braces removed yesterday....It cost me a little over $600 for my retainers. BUT that also includes the molds of my teeth...I ask what would happen if I need new retainers as far as cost and the told me it would be $179 for each arch....So the $600 is for your molds and your retainers.....So its not to bad.

Are you talking about Essix retainers? I have always paid $75 everytime I've lost or damaged mine to get a replacement. I only remember one mold ever being taken, right after I got my braces off.

So they haven't taken new impressions when you needed a new one made? It would be cool to use the debrace impressions (as long as teeth haven't moved or moved very minimal) to make new retainers if I lose or break mine but I cannot see how my ortho would have enough room to store every patients debrace impressions in their office  I think mine will require new impressions.

I wasn't charged for my essix so I assume it was included in the price. I believe they charge a replacement fee of $250.00. I did pay $495 for my positioner though. $600 for an essix seems a bit too steep in my opinion. But then again, I guess it would depend on the overall cost of one's braces.

the lab fee for an essix is around 75 bucks per arch. ask your doc for a breakdown of his fee. you hired him. make him accountable. it's merely a request for an itemized receipt. just like your m.d., hospital, or even mechanic.
