retainer problems

Hi..i am wearing a hawley retainer, top and bottom. Here's my question and concern. On my lower retainer, the U loop labial bow , there are two of them, one against each incisor, one loop is longer than the other. It doesn't look bad, but the longer one is very uncomfortable. Is this normal to have uneven U loops? Also the wire that runs between the U loop and across my lower teeth is slanted, which is unsightly. I am hesitant to ask my ortho to remake my bottom retainer cause he may want to charge me for a new one. Am I being unreasonable and or too picky about my retainer?
