plastic mouth

So I got my retainers yesterday. They are clear plastic molds of my teeth and fit very tightly, made by GAC. They are a harder product than I had with Invisalign, but otherwise quite similar. The palate is fully exposed. I am supposed to wear them 24/7 until Monday and then at night while I sleep. My ortho says the bottom arch is quite stable and that will be all it needs. The upper arch has a bonded 3 to 3 retainer as well which will take care of that.

I was going to complain and insist on Hawleys which I know can be more comfortable than these Hybrid Essix retainers. But if I can go free except for nighttime wear after a few days, I'm gonna give this a try.

So this morning after a full night's wear my bite was perfect...better than I remember it being even after the debonding. Everything just felt "right". hmmm. So I have a retainer check up at the end of March. We'll see what's up and how all is going then. Right now I'm happy with the whole process and the results (even if I didn't like the invisalign...live and learn).

Wednesday now, yesterday and today have been night time wear only and it seems fine. Retainers fit without being too tight, and come out easily in the morning. The sides of my tongue which got pretty chewed up the first days (like adjusting to molar bands) are now healing. So it will be in 6 months that we'll know if all is well, unless there is a major shift that is otherwise quite noticeable.

Good to hear that you are adjusting to your retainers just fine. Congrats on being an "after" :-88
