Help with retainer please!

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Help with retainer please!

#1 Post by braced4asmile »

I got debanded yesterday and have top and bottom retainers for sleeping. I am a gagger, so every time I put them in, I gag. At the most, they have been lasting a few minutes before my gag reflex kicks in and I have to spit them out. I called the ortho and they said to ease my way into them by alternating. Even alternating makes me gag!

Any suggestions?

if retainers are causing you an issue then I would probley recommend getting permenant retainers instead of hawleys or essix... that would help solve that issue.

Actually, I have both. I have retainers for the evenings and permanent retainers. Double duty, I guess. I'm having problems with my evening ones.
