Were your retainer and final X-Ray cost extra?

Hi. I am getting my braces removed soon. I finished paying for the contract a while ago and then last week, I received a bill for the retainer and final x-ray. Is this normal? Shouldn't the retainer and final x-ray part of the contract? Did you have to pay for the retainer and final x-ray separately?

This is looking really suspicious as it seems like my orthodontist is trying to rip me off.

Please advise. Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. When I signed the contract, it did not say anything about extra charges for these (as written on the recent bill):

Final X-rays, Photos, & Models
Final Retainers

It just seems so odd that he decided to charge me for the other items and Photos again? That's ridiculous! They took photos of my teeth a few times but I was never charged for those before.

Had I known that these are extra charges beside the contract, I would have never gone with this Orthodontist. These extra charges were not mentioned at all!

The only thing I had to pay extra for was my second essix as I broke the first one

. But other than all charges were included in my initial fee per my contract.

Thanks. This is exactly my understanding. Gosh, how shady my ortho is...And he's supposed to be reputable. I'm going to have to fight this as I am not paying another penny.

Anyone else got any info on this? TIA

Okay, perhaps I should take back the word "shady". I am somewhat upset about this whole situation. Had these "extra" fees were listed on the initial contract, I would had made my decision in the beginning whether to go with this ortho. But surprise fees really pisses me off. Thank you for your input.

It turned out that those fees were on the original contract, on different line item. I guess it's been 2.5 years and I forgot all about those charges. Oh well...Thanks for all your responses.

On the positive note, I got my braces removed today. Gosh, they look really nice as compared to the old photos. My teeth look HUGE as some other people on this forum pointed out.

I will be picking up the retainer in a couple of days and will be prepare for more pain.
