Bonded retainer trouble

well its been a while since i have posted here since i havent had any new developments with my life after braces...lol....but 2 days ago i went to get a cleaning at my dentist. well...the hygenist was not very careful. i have a bonded retainer across my bottom front 6 teeth and it is cemented the the back of each tooth. while cleaning my teeth, she broke the retainer....(drilled away some cement which then came off my tooth....so the retainer was no longer in place at that spot.

sooo....i booked an appointment with my ortho....ran into his new office(VERY NICE!!) i had an assistant fix the retainer for me. all is well but there seems to be some type of glue (dont think its cement but its possible) that is stuck inbetween 2 of my teeth....so i cannot get a piece of floss in there AT ALL. no budging. ive tried to scrape it off.... but its not morking at ALL.

so my questions....do you think that i have the right assumption in thinking that there is something preventing the floss from getting in there? i didnt have any trouble flossing before....

and...should i wait it out and see if things clear up or book another appointment and get this stuff out of there???

thanx all!!!

Since you've always been able to floss before then it's got to be the glue! I'd definetely call and go back in because you can't skip flossing between those teeth. Oh gosh I'm about to get bonded retainers and I hope that this isn't a common thing that happens during cleanings! Good luck!

Hi!

Sorry you are having this trouble - I have been there done that! When I got my lower bonded retainer there was excess adhesive in two spots that made it impossible to floss. I went back to the ortho's office and they removed it, and I never had any real problems after that. Actually, although it doesn't prevent me from flossing, there is still a tiny bit of excess adhesive on the back of one of my lower teeth, and I plan to ask them to remove it when I go back in November. It isn't causing a flossing problem but I can feel it.

Good luck!

Thanks Linda! :)
Are you able to bite into most anything with your bonded uppers without concern for the adhesive breaking? Example: apples, nuts ,etc?

Hi! It's been a while since I've been on too! (Linda I notice that you and I were debanded a day apart!!)

I've got bonded uppers and lowers. I eat everything, including fantales!

I'm going for my first follow up shortly... hope it goes well. Good luck with the flossing issue!

Linda: my debanding is December 13th..I'm very excited especially since I'm one of the older ones going through this (51). I have a much clearer picture now of what to expect..I don't like caramel anyway so that helps but I do love popcorn! Guess my molars are gonna get a workout! :)
*gasp*...just counted the days: only 41 to go! (Best Xmas present I could ever ask for!)
