I had my braces off last week. They put a cheese wire on the top and bottom 4 teeth on the back! It is a really crappy job and it kills my tongue! Why can't I have just a regular retainer? Should I ask him for the removable ones?

Hi Rangerchic. I have a Hawley on top and a permanent wire on the bottom. It took me a while to get used to the wire on the bottom. I still play with it with my tongue. It never hurt me though. I asked for a removable Hawley for the bottom, but my orthodontist wouldn't give me one. He said it was bulky and people tended not to wear it. So good luck. Maybe you could compromise and get on one top.

For what it is worth, I didn't have a whole lot of movement that needed to be done...
