Braces Off, Teeth moving already??

Braces Off, Teeth moving already??

#1 Post by sarah539 »

Hello,
Was looking for some friendly advise! Had my brace taken off on Friday just gone and my teeth were lovely :-) Iv noticed though that since then one of my front teeth is moving already! Its out of place now and im just a bit worrried as i dont get my retainer until Friday. Should i be concerned or is this normal?
Thanks.

Given the amount of movement one can get within hours of an adjustment I would say it is normal. I also believe that retainers can do a small amount of remedial work. However, if you are worried, call your ortho before Friday.

I would say the teeth could shift slightly quite quickly but others might disagree. I think maybe it depends on how long the teeth have been in a wire that stabilizes the teeth?

I would have thought that your retainer should correct the tooth that you feel has shifted, as long as it's minimal shifting. The day you got your impressions to make your retainer was before the tooth shifted so the retainer should bring that tooth back to how it was the day of your impressions. If not then a hawley retainer can be slightly adjusted I think, but not a clear retainer.

It might be worth calling your orthos office though just to see what they say.

Thanks for the replies. It has definitely moved I can just tell, others can't but I can!! Called the dentist, he wasn't in and basically just got told we can't do anything to help you until the retainer comes in! Hopefully it won't move much more and the retainer will move it back once it's on!

Yes, they move quickly. I was fitted for my retainer before my braces were removed. I now wear the retainers two nights a week. They feel a little tight when they first go on which means that my teeth have shifted.
