Joney is topless (pics added)

#1 Post by joney »

I got my top brace off this morning. Yay. I hadn't posted anything on the forum as last time I posted that I thought it would be coming off in May it never happened so I was feeling superstitious.

The brace came off really quickly. Only slightly longer than the usual adjustment when the doors are opened (I had a damon brace with doors) in fact I thought the ortho had just opened the doors when in fact he had taken the brackets off.

Then the burning grinding bit that was no big deal, a polishing and viola, done. Gagtastic impressions, told myself not to panic and that too was over quickly.

Need to have my bottom brace on for a while longer but I don't mind.

My teeth feel slimey as people have mentioned here before. What a lovely feeling though to run my tongue over the front of my teeth and feel a lovely shape. The teeth are not perfect but have turned out so much better than I could ever have anticipated, I am so happy.

Pics to follow, I promise. I'm off to the hygienist next week so they'll be even better.

19 1/2 months with my top brace has flown by really. Some down moments but mostly I forgot about them and the only big deal was the extra cleaning. Flossing really quickly was a pleasure today.

Anyone thinking of getting a brace and reluctant out there I would say just go for it, you won't regret it. It's something I wish I'd done years ago.

Regards
Joney

Here are my pics. I know how everybody on archwired loves pics.

Thanks Linda, Meryaten and Lionfish, your support has always been appreciated. Thank you also Mimmy.

I have my essix retainer now and didn't like it for the first five minutes but it has been fine, I pop it in at night, forever more I imagine.

When I get my bottom brace off the before and afters will be even more dramatic, hopefully in the next few months, just a tiny gap left to close now.

Was it worth it, well judge for yourself, I would definitely do it again. Having a brace as an adult is only a big deal if you make it a big deal and I really didn't have that much pain at all, just a day or two of mild discomfort after adjustments.

Before:

You can see how the misalignment caused uneven staining.

After:

Slight black triangle but nothing worth writing home about. I'm off to see the hygienist next week and she is a wonder worker so they'll look even better.

CONGRATULATIONS Joney! They look amazing, you must be so pleased!

:-V :-88 :jump:

I hope you've been celebrating in style and it will carry on feeling so great forever more. How much longer for the bottoms? At least you got the tops off first, they're the best I imagine!

Well done on sticking through the hard times and coming out with a smile to be truly proud of

Thanks Ken, Lisa, Tin Indian, Meryaten, and Miss Smiley.

Florencegal, hope your turn comes soon. Not sure how much longer with the bottom, another few months I think as the gap still needs a bit more closing.

They look great! It's good to see that you were so positive about having braces as an adult. You can either be embarrassed about braces or embarrassed about crooked teeth.

Thanks for the compliments. I actually feel I should have waited until after my cleaning to post a pic but I was excited. The black triangle was mostly tobacco staining (shame on me) and has now more or less disappeared since I had my cleaning.

Still enjoying being topless and getting used to not having the brace. Trying to remember to smile more to get my monies worth (ha ha).

Am used to my essix retainer now although at first it felt a big gaggy. I'm kind of glad that I didn't have to get used to two retainers at the same time.
