The back edge (the part away from my teeth) of my Hawley lower retainer has a sharp edge on it that my tongue kept hitting up against. This had been bugging me for a little while, but I came up with a solution this morning that is working swimmingly. I took a little strip of OrthoSil and pushed it onto that edge of the retainer, while the retainer was dry. This formed a little rounded pad along that one section of the retainer.
I've had it there for 4 hours so far this morning and as of now, my tongue is no longer hurting in the spot that was rubbing against the sharp edge. The retainer is still sitting like it should on my teeth, as this doesn't affect or touch the part that touches my teeth. This just rounds off that one sharp edge on the inside.
I'm hoping that when I go in for my follow-up in a few weeks that my dentist can bevel that edge or something, but in the interim, this is working out as a wonderful solution. I have a few little cases of OrthoSil left from my bulk order back in October, so this will let me use those up and be retainer comfy.
