If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.
I know I'm chiming in a little late here, but I had my braces removed last Friday and left with all my fillings!! I have fillings in almost every back tooth (big ones), and I was really concerned about the molar bands coming off, but it was no big deal!!

Wow....I was wondering if my crown would be coming off with my one molar band too! It will need to be re-done anyhow, but the thought of it coming off on debanding just made me sad. Good toknow that it should stay on!

I have 3 fillings in my front teeth, and one cavety was pretty deep. And I had problems with sensetivety(espeically there), so I went to the dentist and had to have one filling changed. It was no big deal, and they managed to do it without doing anything to the braces... Allthough the anasteticha(local), was quite painfull...Because there are so many nerves where he(dentist) had to work. But it was fine really. They said it had to do with the braces or something. I think they didn't manage to fix it properly either when my teeth were closer/more crowded(before braces), and it was quite deep, so that might had have to do something about it anyway(even if I did not have braces). But if you experience anything unusual, I'd let my orthodontist/dentist know...By the way: You are much more likely to get caveties when you have braces, so take extra good care of them.. Don't drink juice(without food), or soda, and cut down on sweet, and anything with a low Ph...I should practice what I preach, but well. That's the advice they usually give....
Good luck with your treatment!
I had my braces off 10/10. I had clear ones on bottom and top. Forget the brand now. My braces were always fairly comfortable and I had no jaw pain by the time they came off. Getting them off was pretty painful, but I lost no fillings. I do have a molar with a crown, and they couldn't get a bracket to stay on and ended up putting a band there. Since debanding, I've had cold sensitivity in that tooth and actually some throbbing pain. Taking aspirin from time to time.
I went to dentist for cleaning, that hurt too, they spent a lot of time removing composite. Said it was normal to have a lot left, that polishing at ortho never gets it all off. I honestly think the hygenist put a small chip in a a front incisor. The ortho had smoothed off the front tops without asking me, which upset me, to keep them from chipping more.
And, the hygenist seemed to open up some triangles between my lower front teeth that weren't there when I went in.
I have an essix upper and a hawley lower retainer, and when I wear the hawley, which they are using to finish up the front lower 4 teeth, which are still a bit uneven, anyway when I wear it, my upper jaws ache.
I have loved my ortho and his staff, but I'm a little concerned about whether everything is going to balance out. I was actually happier with the braces on.
Also, I had a very deep overbite, which is now gone, and bite looks pretty good, but teeth so close together that I still bang them together - sometimes almost in an overbite. do others have this problem?
Sorry to confuse things. I suppose this is really off topic for this thread. My incisors are tending to want to meet end to end and clash when speaking, occasionally when eating. It is an intermittent problem. The ortho is working to event out bottom incisors a bit to try to prevent this.
More worrisom right now is this pain in my left jaw and in the molar that is crowned. Have other people had that and does it go away? The dental hygenist who cleaned my teeth last week said that I really have no recession in that tooth to caause cold sensitivity. It seems worse after wearing lower Hawley retainer for a long time or after eating. I keep hoping that maybe debanding that molar (and it had a band, not a bracket) just stirred it up and that eventually it will calm down.
I'm going to see my acupuncturst about it next week and maybe she can get it to calm down. Could be that I have some congestion from fall allergies too that is pressuring that tooth.
The debanding and cleaning may have also exposed a small spot that's sensitive. I had a deep cleaning a few months ago and had strong sensitivity on one tooth that didn't have any recession for about a week or so after and then it went away. The dentist said it was nothing to worry about.

I worry about getting my molar bands off. Not so much about the fillings although i do have one tooth that is practically half a filling with a bracket attached.Oh well in 4 weeks i'll know either way.
