Yuck!
My kid's retainers are WAY thicker and bigger than mine. The lab your ortho uses may be different from your last one.
My kids couldn't talk with theirs in and I can with mine.
I don't know what to tell you...can you post a picture? I'm curios to see if yours looks like my kid's
Good luck to you!
Jenn
Can't get used to new retainer! Is this normal?

I have an Essix and I felt almost the same as you the first few days. What I did was wear it as long as I could stand it (sometimes only 1/2 hour or so!) then take it out. I did wear it to sleep in because it didn't bother me then.
Oddly enough, the time I could leave it in started getting longer and longer. Trust me, at first I was gagging having it in!
After three days, I was completely ok. After less than a week, I prefer to have it in and actually tend to forget it's there.
Don't stress too much and go with it. If, after a bit of time, it is still horrible, then maybe it's an issue. For now, maybe it's a matter of getting used to it?
