Do I Have Too Much Going On For Braces?

#1 Post by Carol »

I am new to the board. Someone suggested I ask a doctor the following questions:

I have had braces as a child, but only on my upper teeth. They fixed an overbite and a large space between my two front teeth. But I was left with a "closed" or "deep" bite. When I smile or when my upper and lower teeth are together, my lower teeth are not visible. I guess that is what is meant by a closed bite. I never had braces on my bottom teeth and they are quite crooked.

I would like to fix my bite and my crooked bottom teeth. But I have such a variety of things going on in my mouth and I don't know if getting braces would be an option. All my molars have had root canals and have crowns. I have bonding on the front upper teeth. I also have two implants, one on top and the other on the bottom.

I guess my question is this: Will the pressure of braces loosen my crowns and implants or will they move the way natural teeth would? I am especially concerned about the implants as they cost me quite a bit of money which my dental insurance did not cover!

Thank you for your help.

Implants, if healthy and totally integrated with the bone , will not loosen with ortho tx. In fact implants make excellent platforms to base forces off of in some cases! Well fitting crowns and nicely done bonding should not be a problem at all. Go see an orthodontist and see what he/she says. But don't worry, if your implant loosened while in braces then it was going to be loose anyway.
