Metal Band Anguish

#1 Post by Phaedra »

Just had braces put on for the first time yesterday, so far so good except the right metal band on my upper molar is giving me grief. My Ortho had a difficult time getting it to fit and apparently tweaked it a bit before putting it on—tooth is now very sore and I can feel my lower molar bite into band when I clench my back teeth. Is this normal? Or do I need to go back to have the Ortho do a further adjustment.

I can only speak from my experience but molars can be quite sore after banding. I would check with the ortho regarding the band hitting the upper molar when you bite. I know part of my band was adjusted and it overlaps the tooth a tiny bit but I can't feel myself hitting it. One would think you shouldn't be biting the band but check that out with the ortho.

Eventually, the gum irritation does heal and you will feel better.
