Indecisive about braces, but...

#1 Post by braceyfacey »

Hi everyone,

I'm 24 and new to the forums. Just starting out on my journey to straighter teeth. This is after being indecisive about the process for a really long time. I have two rotated incisors in the top, crowding in the bottom and a slight overbite. I had a few consultations in February last year and had originally thought I would be getting Invisalign as multiple orthos had stated that I was a valid candidate. I became less sure as I read that Invisalign was not as effective as traditional braces so ended up delaying the process. In addition, I was not entirely comfortable with the orthos I had already visited.

In March of this year I got a recommendation from a family friend to an ortho who apparently had 30 years of real experience and booked in a consultation. He made me feel super comfortable, and was very enthusiastic and professional in his manner. So, during the next appointment I got X-rays and moulds. Finally, I got traditional metal braces installed on my top arch on the 13th of April. I'll be getting my bottom arch wired as well at my first adjustment on the 14th of next month. Expected completion is between 12-18 months. The first 2 or 3 days were toughest as I kept thinking that I wanted the contraptions out of my mouth and feeling regret. However, now that I'm used to them I keep thinking that I should have gotten them earlier. It has only been a short time but I'm excited as I can already see and feel my teeth moving!

Was it just time that helped you get over the feelings of wanting the braces off? I've had mine for 6 months and I literally am counting the days until I'm free of them!!
