57 and braces again

After several years of denying that my teeth had shifted way too much I have decided to get braces again. I got clear braces 2 weeks ago on my top teeth. I had to have the bands taken off the bottom teeth because they are crowns and didn't fit correctly. Now I will go back next week for them to design and cut bands to fit the crowns.

I am nervous about braces at my age. After having 2 grandchildren and having up close photons taken with the babies I know I am doing the right thing.

My ortho say 2 years. I know it will go fast.

I notice everyone says that two years will go fast. It certainly will as the older you are the faster it goes. I am trying to live for the moment because in two years I will be 65 and I don't particularly want to wish my life away. So it's life with braces for the next two years and hopefully when I get used to them it will be life as usual.

I go for my first adjustment in two days. I should be excited because there have been lots of movement with my teeth. I can't wait for my ortho to give me his assessment of my progress.

What I am not looking forward to is having the ligatures changed. I have clear ligatures and had them changed right before Thanksgiving. The assistant who changed them tried her best to be gentle but it really hurt when she replaced the ones on my bottom teeth.

I am hoping that I will have a better experience this time.

Just had mine done. They didn't hurt but there was a lot of pressure and I must have pulled some awful faces. I was especially nervous when it was done on my three front crowns. Are you finding your teeth hurt? Mine don't but the gums get sore from wires and braces in different places. My ortho said older people complain about sore gums while younger people complain about sore teeth.

Fantastic difference! I know that's why we wear braces but when the teeth actually move it is still amazing.

Thanks Uptown girl! It is amazing to see the progress. I am still a little nervous about my adjustment tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed that the bottom ligatures go on easier than the last time.

I went for my first adjustment today and things went great. Ortho is very pleased with my progress especially with the bottom teeth. I have a premolar that needed to be rotated out. It has really moved a lot with the power chain on.

We just changed the ligatures today. Changing them was easier and less sensitive than the last time. Next adjustment is on February 3. I will get new upper and lower arch wires.

Don't be nervous. Nowadays more and more adults are seeking orthodontic to make their smile better. Think positively, think about what kind of result you desired.

Here is a current picture of my progress. 5 months into treatment. I am so excited about the space between my top front teeth! They have been crossed for so long that to see that space is a good thing.

My bite has become more open than before but I am not wearing elastics just yet. I know that will be soon.

It is exciting to see the changes happening especially in problem teeth that we wanted fixed.

I have my next adjustment later this month. I will be getting new arch wires in top and bottom. One week later I have my 6 month cleaning with my regular dentist.

I am wondering how sensitive my teeth will be for the cleaning. Maybe I am just over-thinking this.
I have only had one wire change so far and it was a breeze.

Any thoughts?
