I just wanted to say Hello. My name is Tamara and I'll be 28 next month on the 3rd. As a birthday present for myself, my braces are scheduled to be put on on the 8th of May

I opted for the traditional metal braces and the orthodontist estimated I'll have them for about a year.
This board seems very helpful with answering my many adult-braces questions, so I thought it was time to register and introduce myself

I'll post my before pictures when I get enough posts in to do so.

Thank you

I'm so excited to get my braces. I'm borderline obsessing over it

Tee hee, I think that's normal. I was obsessed too! Then also for the first few weeks. I'm slightly less so now but only slightly. I expect I shall be somewhat obsessed the entire time

Most of my friends think I'm bonkers for wanting braces. I'm pretty sure everyone I've talked to seem to think that I don't need them, but they are something I've wanted my entire life. If they will help me smile more, and be more confident, why not get them?

I think I have enough posts now to post pictures...so I'm going to give this a go. This will be my 2nd form of orthodontic work. My first was when I was in gradeschool, and I had an appliance I don't believe is not around anymore. It was called an Orthotain. It was similar to invisalign, but one all one piece, and I didn't wear it all the time (mostly at night). It completely straightened my bottom teeth, and helped my top gaps and overbite a little, but not fully. I grew out of the one I had and my mom at the time could not afford another. So my teeth are not bad now, but I'm still not comfortable with my smile.

Here's a picture where you can see I still have a slight overbite. The spacing bugs me the most though. I know a lot of people will think that it's not bad, but I am not comfortable with my smile as it is. I can't wait for my braces

Not too bad

I can say that even with just braces I'm already smiling with more confidence. Some people will say that the braces make them self conscious, but I just don't see it. Having braces means you care enough about your smile to fix it, you care about yourself, so flaunt those brackets!
And yes, halfway there. Every appointment and adjustment might hurt to start, but it's a milestone. Every time I go in, I think to myself, "one month closer to getting them off, one month closer to a beautiful smile"
