The first ortho that I went to (who is also my dentist) wanted to treat my case with a bonded expander and then possibly extraction and braces. If I went with his treatment plan he said it would take about three years so I went to other orthos to get their opinions and they told me they would treat me without expanaion but definately extraction and it would only take 1.5 to 2 yrs. So I guess it really depends on your individual case and how experienced your ortho is. If that sounds like its too long you should ask your ortho why if you havent already and go for second and third opinions. Initial consultations are usually free.

Goodluck!! :P

LIke ^^^ said i think it depends on your individual case.

But i've known people who have had braces for 3 and 3 1/2 years...

And my teeth are terrible and the ortho told me 18-24months.

So if you have a prob with it...ASk why or get a 2nd and 3rd opinion

This topic is a little dated but I'm wondering if there are others -- currently -- in the 3year club? My brace date is 7/29 and treatment time is expected to be 36 months. When I think about how quickly the months tick by (it is July already, for goodness sake), I want to think the time will pass quickly. I'm 51 and seem to have noticed time flying. :o

I was originally quoted between one year and three years. Found out later that the expected completion time was actually eighteen months. I am now seventeen months in and looking at removal in a month or two -- sooner if I wasn't a perfectionist. Started elastics one year in and wore them religiously. The time in braces depends on the difficulty of your case, how easily your teeth move, and your compliance.
