Is being middle aged a good time to have braces?

#1 Post by Kaye E B »

I will be 50 later this year, and after a comment from my husband - what a funny smile I had with a tooth missing - I realised that the way my teeth were wonky one side gave the appearance that one was missing. I visited my son's orthodontist, who explained the options, and I decided to go for it and get top and bottom braces, to get them straightened. I had just become very self concious of my wierd smile and winced at photos of myself.

I'm four months in now and have had a mixed reaction from friends and colleagues. I have had the clear brackets put on the front so they are not quite so noticeable, which has helped. What do other members think of going for this braces at my age? :? I feel reasonably confident that I have made the right decision for me, but would be interested to hear what other peoples experiences have been.

I think any age is a good time,I got my braces at 43. It seems like a lot of people have waited untill they were older for whatever reason. I had two daughters that needed braces, and just now have had the time and money to get them for myself. My family has been very supportive ,as they've known I've wanted them for a long time.So congrats on getting started and enjoy your smile as your teeth get straighter!

I'm 66 and got braces 3 months ago. I'm sorry I waited so long, living with crooked teeth - they are already much, much better than they were and I know I'll be happy with the results. Good luck to you!! :jump:
