I've posted a few times in the general forum but failed to formally introduce myself. I am 29 years old and this is my second time in braces. I have a moderate overbite which will be corrected with lower jaw surgery in approximately 18 months. My upper and lower midline is also off.
I had braces in high school but failed to wear my retainers for the proper amount of time after being debanded. My smile was "ok" when the braces came off, but no where near perfect. I still had a huge overbite and my midline was still off.
I finally got the courage to spend the money and endure the pain in order to achieve better self confidence when it comes to my smile (not to mention the issues related to my bite). My braces were applied on Tuesday of this week. I have clear In-Ovation C's on the top (with metal towards the back) and metal In-Ovations on the bottom. These brackets seem bulky to me compared to the traditional brackets I had 10+ years ago, although my ortho swears otherwise. Also, I was never informed that the clear brackets weren't completely clear (they have shiny doors) until I took my first look in the mirror. I hated them at first but I'm becoming used to the look now. I just hope that I don't end up with shiny spots on my upper teeth in photos from the doors.
So, I'm 4 days into my predicted 26 month journey. Here's to a mouth full of brackets, a worsening bite leading up to jaw surgery and then hopefully a perfect smile!
BTW...my second day in braces was pretty painful (unrelieved by Tylenol or Motrin), but each day thereafter has become more tolerable.

Hello mwp921, welcome to AW! I hope your braces journey goes smoothly and brings you the beautiful smile you're after.
I didn't know there were different brackets to choose from when I got my braces. My ortho told me the ones he was going to use, and I just accepted it. I learned about these options after I found AW (about 5 months after getting braced). Fortunately, I'm okay with the brackets he chose (Damons). They're not as discreet as some, but at least I don't have to deal with staining ligs.
Bummer that your first round of braces didn't finish the job!! I wonder why that happened?!

I'm beginning to wonder why myself, although my Mom tells me my teeth looked really good when the braces first came off but didn't hold their position for long. My fault I guess for not wearing the retainers as much as I should have in the beginning.
I took some pictures this weekend. I'll post them when I have a chance. It's amazing to me that it's only been a week since I was banded and I can already tell a difference in my smile!
My almost 2 year old daughter sleeps with us and decided to sit up and slam her head down on my mouth early Sunday morning (she was still sound asleep). Needless to say she busted my lip but luckily the bracket underneath did not break. It just did nasty damage to the inside of my lip.
