Hi all!
I'm very glad to have found a forum for adults with braces. I went to one of those "straight teeth in 6 months!" dentisits. I really wish I had my "before" picture - I could only find a picture where I was smiling with my mouth open (which I rarely did) I've only had the braces for about 5 weeks and my teeth have moved A LOT! It's so great. I'm so excited about the progress that I am not even that conscious about the braces now! It's amazing how quickly my front tooth is moving.
I've always had one crooked front tooth (right) and it was getting worse as I got older - probably because of impacted wisdom teeth. When I was going around to shop for an orthodontist, my current one was the only one who looked at my overall dental health - he took out my wisdom teeth and had me have full deep cleaning, all that good stuff. he sanded in between my teeth to make room for the big guy to move into place.
Good to meet you all!

Wow
Hi, H,
I'm so impressed to see the big progress you had in merely 5 weeks! I can't believe it! I have similar case as yours but also crowed upper, so I had to have 1st pre-molar on the upper right and 2nd premolar on the upper left extracted. And had ceramic braces put on the upper and metal put on the lower. It's been 3 weeks since I got the braces on, but I can barely see any difference from before except some gap between my front teeth. I'm just wondering what is your situation and how are you dealing with it. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience and it really helps a lot!!!
Best,
Sarah

Re: Wow
Hi Sarah!
Ooh how are you doing so far? Haha did they sand in between your front teeth too? The little gap in between the two front teeth was what I noticed first, too... I've had my braces for about 1 1/2 months now, I am actually getting very used to them. I think the worst part about the WHOLE process is that with the ceramic braces, you get the ligatures discolored and it looks like you have bright yellow teeth...
But at least you get those changed every month!
Be patient, I didn't really see BIG progress the first month either. I swear thuogh they will move and once you start to notice the changes, they'll feel like they're moving so quickly!
Hope you're dealing well with it too - you know, at first I was reluctant to go out or anything with these things on, but like everyone I know who's ever had braces said, you kinda learn to live with it without a problem soon. Haha promise! I never thought I'd be so.. OKAY with having braces at my age, but this is TOTALLY worth it and not even a big trouble to go through for what we gain at the end!
Good luck with yours and if you need any support while you are getting used to them, I'd be really happy to talk to ya!

Thanks a lot, H! That really eases me down a lot. I'm just getting so anxious these days since I haven't seen any changes yet, but total discomfort:( I do notice my bites change almost everyday since they feel differently every day:P Anyway, I'll just try to occupy myself into something else and not to think about it for a while, but it's kinda hard with the 2 big extraction gaps in my mouth. I wish I had chosen the "sand-down/shaving" method, but changed my mind at the last minute and decide to go for the full treatment. Oh well, I just hope everything will turn out fine. I'm looking forward to your update!
Sarah

Thanks Ken + Sarah!
Thank you for your posts, it really helps a lot to be able to talk to people who are going through similar situations. I have my next adjustment this Thursday - I am going to take new pictures then and post them.
Haha I canNOT quit iced coffee so my ligatures are quite stained, I want the new pictures to be not as dingy looking.
I think I am going to ask and see if they have these "smoke colored" ligatures that everyone here keep talking about.
Another day closer to getting these braces off!
Once I have my new pictures, I am going to be posting in the "Our Braces Club" too and keep posting pictures there. See you all around!
Helen
