Tomorrow is the day...

Hi, I'm Stephanie. My braces are going on TOMORROW! I'm still worried that I am going to chicken out.

I'm an attorney and I just opened an office of my own (literally two weeks ago). I'm worried that my clients will think that I look too young- but I'm tired of waiting to get this problem fixed. The orthodontist first told me that I needed braces when I was twelve- but I whined and cried and talked my parents out of making me do it. Here I am, 17 years later, finally going through with it and, unfortunately, having to pay for the whole thing myself!

My brackets are going to be ceramic on top and steel on the bottom. I think that I'm going to go with clear ligatures on top, and pink on the bottom. I'm worried about the taste of the glue and not being able to swallow. However, I'm looking forward to the spacers coming out. I've had them since last Wednesday. They've been MURDER!!!!

Anyhow, I wanted to say "hi"...I'm signing on for the adventure....

Hi Stephanie and welcome. Congratulations about your decision to improve your smile - and of course, your bite. Please don't chicken out - you have put yourself through a lot in just getting those spacers. If you quit now, you will have to go through that again next time you decide to get braces. Besides once you have the braces on, you will be surprised at how much more confidence to will exude - that should overcome any chance of looking younger! Good luck tomorrow. I would recommend putting some chapstick on your lips a few times before you go to get them put on, and also take some ibuprophin or other pain killer before you leave the orthodontist's office.

Hi. Congratulations on deciding to get braces. Don't chicken out. Keep thinking of the nice new smile you will have when the braces come off. It's all worth it. Braces aren't really as bad as I was expecting them to be. There is pain and I couldn't eat properly at first but the pain isn't all the time and you do get used to eating with them. I agree with Attagirl2 about the chapstick and the paracetamol. My mouth didn't really get too dry when they put them on and there was a bad taste but it wasn't there for long and it wasn't too bad. Braces are definately not as bad as I expected. Good luck with your appointment. Everything will go fine, don't worry :D

Hi Stephanie, and welcome! By now I hope you've had your braces put on and that the glue wasn't anything to worry about.. usually the assistants are pretty good at keeping it where it needs to be. Hmm, ceramic top & metal bottom, same as me. I also wanted my braces to be discreet because of my line of work. After time you just get used to them and begin to think about how great your teeth will look once they come off :D . Don't forget to take some Ibuprophen if you experience any pain  .

Same age as me Stephanie - don't worry it will take a little while to get used too them, but before long you'll hardly notice you have them, and other's won't probably notice them on your either, especially with you having Ceramic on top. The postive outcome far outway the initial discomforts and awkwardness of having braces. Watching your teeth improve in their aesthetics and functionality is a rewarding experience. :)
