Second time's the charm? Getting braces again at 33

#1 Post by SmilinMammal »

Hello! As the title says, I'm 33 and this my second time getting braces. I had braces at 12 years old but was lazy about wearing my retainer and my teeth migrated back to their original places. The Essix retainer (then just introduced) smelled horrible, making it difficult to wear. I was also advised to wear it only at night for a maximum of 10 years. I now know that this was incorrect thinking, and had I followed the instructions exactly my teeth would have migrated anyway.

I decided to get braces again because my hygienist informed me that my crossbite was slowly chipping away at my upper teeth. When I saw the damage I was convinced that I had to do something about it! Here I am, one week into my ceramics, looking forward to interacting with everyone!

Nice to see others around same age. Im 34 in second round of braces as well. I got my original braces off around 17yrs ago. Everything was well, up until this past year when teeth starting shifting. After X-rays, determined slight injury 2yrs ago may have caused teeth movement. Was told if I didn't take care of it now, it would just keep worsening with age. I chose standard metal braces for this go around as well. So far, Im 3 months in, and Ive had my little issues, but in reality, this go around is a lot better than what I remember from the first. I attribute to better technology now, that even 20yrs ago.
