Braced Tomorrow Morning!

#1 Post by sally1988 »

Hi everyone! Only just found this part of the forum after making a few posts elsewhere...
I'm excited and nervous to be getting my braces on tomorrow morning after a couple of years of consultations with my dentist and orthodontist the day is nearly here!
About 5 weeks ago I had my second premolars on top and bottom pulled so looking forward to this starting to close, I plan on getting ceramic brackets on the front top 6 teeth and the rest traditional metal train tracks.
I work in an office at the moment as a survey analyst so don't have much contact with people but in september I will be taking a teacher training course so will be face to face with students so a bit nervous about that!

anyway i love hearing about other peoples experiences and any advice is gratefully received!
i have started a blog if anyone fancies looking, its more for me to document my progress and look back through the treatment but few people have already left nice comments which is helpful as I don't personally know anyone with braces...

I'm eating a Twix while writing this is it possible to eat these with braces or will it be my last one for 18 months?!

Good luck to you tomorrow. I am also getting 6 upper ceramic brackets and the rest metal next month. Are you getting regular braces, Damon or In-Ovation? I am getting the In-Ovation. I hope you aren't hurting too bad tomorrow. Enjoy that Twix. It may be the last one you have for a while.
07/14/14 - 4 spacers put in
07/25/14 - braces top and bottom put in minus 2 molar bands that they couldn't fit
9/11/14 - 2 spacers put in between the bottom back molars
9/19/14 - last 2 bottom molar bands in and all hooked up, new wire, started elastics too
10/14/14 - new square wire change and thick elastics
04/24/17 - braces removed!!!

Thanks guys...
I'm pretty sure the ceramic brackets are Radiance by American Orthodontics as my ortho gave me their brochure at the consultation, they look great in the brochure but she warned me that the clear ligatures can stain quickly but get changed with every adjustment appointment. As long as they do the job I'm not too bothered!

All went well this morning and will update my blog soon with pictures etc...
It was a 55 minute appointment, she put the top ceramics on first at which point I decided to just go for it with ceramics on the bottom too as they looked great, I didn't get a choice of lig colours just had the clear ones on so will see how it goes and get a grey colour at my next appointment in 6 weeks if the staining is bad like others say.

Note to anyone who's not had them on yet don't go with a full face of make up it all got jetwashed off I had to go to work with basically no make up on! It did make me laugh though

Overall I'm happy so far but after a couple of hours I'm already noticing which brackets will be causing the most bother

Thanks pickle I'm really pleased with them

Well I have a part time job as a waitress at the weekends so it was weird to have to smile with it all on but no one mentioned it so they either didn't notice or didn't care!

Yesterday all my front teeth were really sore and felt wobbly some clicked and moved a microscopic amount when I touched them so I quickly clicked them back again! This morning I was up pretty early my bottom lip is really sore where it's rubbed but i havnt used any wax partly because I'm too scared to push hard on any teeth and partly because I'd rather it toughen up than keep adding more wax

I had a yoghurt and a chocolate mousse at work yesterday and that was it so I was starving by the time I got to my evening job, I'm going to stock up on icecream and soup today as I cudnt imagine myself biting anything right now! I'm working 12 hours today so hopefully it will keep my mind off it...

Unfortunately £500 was just part of the payment plan it will be £250 each time I go for an adjustment too :(
I haven't had much sleep at all I just keep waking up through the night although when I get up in the morning there doesn't seem to be any aching it gets worse through the day possibly because I'm moving my teeth more from talking, eating, etc?

I havnt eaten much I managed a piece of toast that I shredded into cm cubes and popped in and swallowed whole, icecream and yoghurt yesterday I just couldn't bare thinking about actually biting anything right now!

I wouldn't say its pain exactly it's like a dull ache that paracetamol and ibuprofen have no effect on, the ache is almost good as I know something's working but also feels like all my teeth could fall out!

I am sorry they are still being buggers! Have you tried tylenol? When I had an injured nerve in my jaw nothing that normally worked would touch it and tylenol was a last ditch effort. It worked. Also an ice pack or heat may be nice placed on the jaw. I know pharmacies around here carry clay packs that can be frozen (but they don't freeze solid), or heated. Those have always have been nice to have around.

I am crossing my fingers for you that they give you a break with the ache, and you get some sleep. All this on top of a lack of food, and working shifts have to be a bear :(

Aching has stopped :)
Teeth still tender and wobbly! unable to bite down on anything so still cutting food into pieces before shoving to the back of my mouth so I can chew with my back teeth but I can live with that for now!
Cleaning the braces can be a bit of a nightmare but doesn't take to much time, I haven't tried flossing yet i'm a bit nervous as to whether it will trigger more aching but i'm sure brushing and the interdental brushes are sufficient for now as I'm not a massive flosser in the first place!
Thanks for the advice pickle a bag of frozen peas did the trick on several occasions!
