Front Teeth Extractions with Braces
Hi Everyone! Has anyone out there had to have their front tooth or teeth extracted along with getting their braces put on? I have to have my two lower front teeth extracted. I have such severe bone loss where those teeth are that an implant would not screw into the bone. So I have to have the braces put on in order to move some teeth around and create bone. Once there is enough bone growth, I will have an implant put in. I am deperately trying to find someone who's had the same or similar experience. I'm nervous about how it will look of course. Anyone had this done too?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I must have them extracted to make room for the 2 teeth next to each of them to move over into their place. Once they move over into the originals' place, I will have implants put into the places of the 2 teeth they moved over. Confusing, I know....... But the whole reason I have to have the braces is to do the moving of the teeth.

Re: Front Teeth Extractions with Braces
I had one lower front tooth removed due to a loss of bone, at the time it was removed it was replaced with a bridge. I am now having orthodontics to correct my bite to help with my TMJ dysfunction. During my orthodontics my lower front tooth on the bridge was removed, and the gap is being closed, which will leave me with 3 lower incisors. My treatment is enabling my lower jaw to be repositioned further forward when I bite.anxiousaboutbraces wrote:Hi Everyone! From what you say it sounds as though you are just having braces to move your lower front teeth, and not for the purpose of correcting your bite, so my situation is not exactly the same as yours. However, I lost the bone in my front teeth due to grinding at night, and correcting my bite should help to stop grinding at night. If you have also lost this bone due to an incorrect bite and grinding at night, then your treatment may not treat the cause of your problem, and for the same reason you could continue to loose bone in the front teeth after they have been moved. If I were you, I'd want to know what has caused the loss of bone before agreeing to a treatment plan to fix it, even if it means seeking second opinions. My orthodontics is being done by a Functional Orthodontist.

Well, I know that my teeth need a little straightening as well as the problem area with the front bone loss. And I also do grit and grind my teeth at night which has led to gum recession. I just had gum grafting last week to help fix that!
But I appreciate your advice as far as asking what has caused the bone loss. I am seeing the orthodontist in November to take impressions and x-rays and will find out then. Thanks for the great advice!

To Amanda6: I meant to ask you how long it will take for your braces to move your teeth? Any idea?
Re: Front Teeth Extractions with Braces
It has taken about 7 months to close the gap of my lower incisor. Not all orthodontists know how to change the bite for good TMJ function. That is why I am having my treatment with a Functional Orthodontist who has a special interest in treating the TMJ. I also saw a Periodontist to ask about my bone loss and gum recession and to ask for his opinion my having the orthodontics with low bone levels in my front teeth.anxiousaboutbraces wrote:To Amanda6: I meant to ask you how long it will take for your braces to move your teeth? Ok, thanks! I also have been working closely with a periodontist, as well as my dentist and then will soon be working with the orthodontist. So much work to have done and I've already had my 3rd oral surgery in a year! Thanks for all your feedback!
