Just got my impressions this week

#1 Post by Boira »

Hi all,

Newbie here!
After years of wanting braces to fix my teeth, finally got my impressions last tuesday and hopefully in 8 weeks my Invisalign adventure will begin. Can't wait! I'm really excited about it because that's something I always wanted to do but never found the right moment to do it (more important bills to pay, other things to take care of... )

Reading how other people are progressing with their treatments is inspirational! I hope my smile will look as good in the near future :GapToothed:

I just started my Invisalign adventure too. I'm currently on week 1 of tray # 3. I have 34 upper and 34 lower (the last 10 sets or so of the lower will be inactive, basicially like a retainer). It took about 5 weeks from impressions to receiving the trays. Nobody has noticed them, unless I have told them and then they look and might be able to see them. I got my 1st set of trays on March 2nd. The first 2 sets I had no attachments. I had my attachments installed last week, 8 on top, 5 on bottom. It has been pain free. Removing the trays after the attachments were installed was a little challenging the 1st day or so, but got easier very quickly. I would recommend ordering the Outie tool (check Amazon.com) for those days that are difficult to get them out. I have 3 of them (1 for purse, 1 for home & 1 at work) along with toothpaste and toothbrushes everywhere. I will be getting rubberbands at my next appointment. I'm curious how thats going to work. Good Luck to you and your adventure.

Hi!

I still don't know how many trays my teeth will need to look decent, but I'm afraid my sentence will be long.
These last weeks of freedom I'm eating like a madwoman all the things that I know I'll have to stay away from once the trays arrive
  • Invisalign 1st round: 23/26U - 23/60L - 13 attachments. Stopped at tray 23.
  • Mid-course correction: 15/15U - 37/37L - 11 attachments - DONE!
  • Refinements: 33/33U - 33/33L - 17 attachments - DONE!
  • Refinements 2nd round: 1/18U - 1/18L - 10 attachments

@45wantsnicesmile I carry a little kit in my handbag that I assembled, with a collapsing toothbrush, a small tube of Crest, a pocket-sized sulcabrush, some picks, floss and a pack of threaders, and a little interdental brush. I wish it had room for a small bottle of mouthwash, but I'm not sure carrying Listerine in my leather bag is the best idea! I don't actually end up using the stuff I carry around very often, but it makes me feel a lot better to have it with me just in case.

I rinse my mouth a lot while I'm out and about, just with whatever I'm drinking, to stop things lodging in my braces as much as possible.

I don't know how elastics work with invisalign (I have normal bonded braces and love them), but I got elastics for the first time last week and they're totally no big deal. In fact, much like the braces themselves, I'm starting to find the feeling of my teeth being in traction all the time to be very comforting.
