Minimal vertical height for an implant crown???

#1 Post by ArchWired28 »

I am now in braces and will have to have a tooth #4 (right upper 2nd premolar) replaced with an implant. However, I have short teeth and the height of the open implant space is only about 5mm (maybe even a tad less). I am concerned this won't be enough to fit an implant crown vertically. I'd appreciate any professional opinions on the matter, and what my options are. I don't want a fixed bridge due to bone loss over time, as I am only 30. Thanks!
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

I have no formal dental or orthodontic education. Hence, all opinions expressed by me on this forum are those of an "informed consumer" and by no means intended as an expert advice.
