The first orthodontist that I went to recommended that I have two teeth removed, but the second (the one I ended up using) said he didn't think I needed them removed. I did have my wisdom teeth out before getting the braces on though, but that was my dentists recommendation.

My laterals were behind my other teeth. This made the ortho a little unsure of keeping them. In the initial consultation, he said skeptically, "we're gonna try to do this without extractions". Luckily everything worked out well!

I had 4 first bicuspids extracted before my treatment (plus my four lovely impacted wisdom teeth). I do know that a lot of treatments are completed now without extractions but I don't know how that could have worked in my case. Not only did I have a lot of crowding but I seem to have a small mouth and larger teeth so there just isn't room for a full set. I fear my daughter is going to run into the same problem UNLESS my hubby's good genes strike again.

I've had two upper wisdom teeth removed recommeded by my regualr dentist not the ortho. I'm having both canines removed 10-31 recommended by the ortho.

Being braced 11-4.

I had 8 teeth removed. My othodontist wanted to take out 4 at the sides to straighten my teeth. Then my dentist suggested taking out my second molars, which needed crowns, and pulling my wisdom teeth along to replace them. I went with that suggestion, even though the orthodontist said he could only move the wisdoms half way over into the space created. I now think it was a big mistake, as I find the gaps between my teeth wisdoms and the first molars huge and its difficult to eat.
