stained teeth

I had linguals fitted on my upper teeth in September and two extractions in October which got infected. I have now got over that problem but now my lower teeth have suddenly gone very brown. 
I have quite a large overbite so the braces on the upper teeth are quite close to the front of the lower teeth. Does anyone else have this problem? Do I have to give up tea, coffee, smoking and alcohol??
