Combination of Invisalign and braces at the same time

I am very nervous I am getting my invisalign and braces in two days. I had traditional braces as a child, but they did not do the job because here I am at 32 back at the orthodontist. My orthodontist has recommended treatment of using Invisalign for my top teeth and ceramic braces for the bottom at same time.

Has anyone had this combination treatment? I have not read anything about it and wonder is this a normal effective way to get results.

When I went for an invisalign consult, I asked my orthodontist about that. They said they didn't want to do that because the metal on the bottom might crack the aligners if they happen to bump up against eachother. But they said if my lower arch wasn't good for Invisalign but the top was, they'd investigate it futher. I got lucky and was a candidate all around so I didn't have to worry about it anymore.

But I think there is at least one person on these boards that has a similar setup. I don't think it's common but I'm sure it can be done.
